Hutton Rudby 1st XI - Lanbaurgh League Champions 2026

The 1s made hard work of winning their first league championship since 1972 against Westerdale Cricket Club.

A tight start bowling first as the Westerdale openers dug in, preventing wickets falling but struggling to score runs, the only intent coming from rare bad balls from openers Gary and Dom, plus the occasional midfields.

The stalemate continued well past 25 overs as Sanjeev capped his tight 10 overs with the first wicket. Once this happened the game sprang to life with a few more shots coming from the visitors and wickets flowing. Charlie getting a 5fer as Westerdale finished on 125.

A lowish looking score was made difficult by a spinning wicket. Westerdale, learning from their batting innings, opened with 2 spinners. This immediately brought rewards with JP bowled leaving the first ball of the innings. Mark soon followed LBW. Again the batters had to dig in, Josh with a battling 18 but once he was dismissed, followed quickly by Seb, the league looked like it was slipping away. The big hitting duo of Charlie and Dan both hit 6s but we're dismissed cheaply soon after. This left Tommy and Harrison to first soak up pressure and then counter attack. As the finish line got closer, the threat from the bowlers diminished. Harrison bringing up a quick 50 before finishing the game soon afterwards.

Relief was the biggest emotion as the celebrations started and continued late into the night. A brilliant season from the 1s as they dug in and pounced as the rivals slipped up.

Thanks to Westerdale for a great match, making us work for the win. Onto next season and possibly new adventures.

The 2s finished the season with a close defeat to Moorsholm but getting a team out was a victory in itself.

Bowling first all 5 bowlers contributed with a wicket, with the better Sayer bowler, Mia, picking up an impressive 3/30 as they were set 154 to win.

Lots of contributions in the batting effort got Hutton close but they just fell short. Steve, Will and Jamie all getting in the runs.

An unfortunate 11 run defeat in the end but encouraging signs as the young team battled hard, a good sign for next season.

Thanks to Moorsholm Cricket Clubfor a good game, and some good food afterwards. See you all next season.

11/09/2026

The last games of the season are upon us.

The 1s go for glory at home. A win against 3rd place Westerdale Cricket Club will ensure Hutton's first league title since 1972.

The 2s scramble a team together to finish the season away at Moorsholm Cricket Club. Great to see the commitment after a few weeks of availablity crisis.

Come down to Hutton Rudby Cricket Club Bar to watch what will be a tense finale to the season and hopefully a bit of silverware.

The 1s are still top of the league going into the final round of games after a low scoring victory over Stafford Place CC.

Bowling first Hutton kept it tight early on, with Phil taking the openers glove and Seb completing the catch for the first wicket. Stafford then dug in on a pitch with variably bounce until Seb stumped the other opener standing back. And when Gary produced a vicious inswinger that took the off stump with the batsman leaving it, the visitors were in trouble at 19-3.

A stubborn partnership then developed as the batting pair looked to see off Phil and Dom who bowled a tight few overs. After drinks the introduction of Sanjeev was devastating, with his mystery spin picking up 6 wickets and blowing away the middle order. Stafford setting the 1s 75 to win, with the pitch making this a more difficult prospect than it looks.

Hutton started their batting with JP and Mark being watchful and surviving against some accurate bowling, which, with the variable bounce was causing both batters problems. This led to JP getting caught behind to a frustrated slog to a pitched up ball. Seb followed a couple of balls later leaving the score at 8-2. Dom joined Mark in the middle and they set about quietening the Stafford fielders with some dogged defense. Once this happened Dom started the counter attack with a flurry of boundaries. Mark was caught at mid of from a horrible shot after doing all the hard work, soon followed by Dom, but they both did their job with only 29 runs needed. With the opening bowlers seen off Phil and Charlie saw a swift end to the match, with Phil especially hitting a few boundaries to get the 20 points for Hutton.

Huttons win setting up an exciting finish to the season. A win would see Hutton win the Lanbaurgh League for the first time since 1972.

04/09/2026

With the 2s having a well earned bye week, after conceding the last 3 games, all focus is on the 1s as they look to continue their good form.

They are finally back at home after a month of away trips. Their opponents Stafford Place CC are the last team to beat them, in a final over thriller, back in July.

The 1s know a win will keep them top going into the final round of fixtures and so am exciting game is in prospect.

The bar is open so get down and help the lads in their quest for a first league championship since 1972.

31/08/2026

The 1s kept their position at the top of the league with an efficient win over Loftus Cricket & Athletic Club.

With rain forecast it was a great time to win the toss and Charlie put Loftus in to bat.

On a difficult wicket for batting, Phil bowled with pace and accuracy, ripping through the top order, finishing with a well deserved 5fer. Gary, Tommy and Charlie also helped bundle the hosts out for 86, taking 37 overs, but crucially getting through those overs quickly.

As the weather started to turn Hutton needed a quick reply, and Phil and JP provided this. They played positively without being reckless, hitting to the short boundaries. Phil finished the game off with a boundary that brought up his 50, completing an excellent individual performance.

With the sides around them also winning in quick time, Hutton played the perfect game. 2 huge home games await with the league title still in reach.
