Never fear, the match report is here 🥳

Our U12's played their first NEWFA Cup game yesterday evening, travelling to the hills of Rhos for what is always a competitive game.

We knew it would be a tough match overall and Rhos didn't take it lightly as they progressed to the next round with an 8-0 win.

Our U12's never gave up and the coaches were happy with the response from the previous weekend.

Coach Ali said "We were very pleased that the lads didn't give up, even late into the game. The boys continued to push for a deserved goal, but unfortunately it never came. The energy levels though were outstanding and the boys were relentless throughout."

POTM went to one of our defensive maestro's, Lennon, who put in a solid shift at RB as he had to face some tricky wing play throughout the game. Well done 👏🏻

Thank you to all the parents and families too who were able to get the players to the game, we know it's not ideal but hopefully one that will get better with time.

A quick turn around now before we travel to Ruabon for our next league game on Saturday morning, please can the boys wear their 🟢 shirts for this game.

And we are back!! 🥳🥳

First game of the U12's season and what better place to start than at home in Abermorddu.

It was a tough morning for the team as they were up against a strong and well drilled LEX.

The first 10 minutes started really well as we created chances and were unlucky not to get a goal or two, but LEX took a hold of the game and the tide quickly turned.

LEX had countless shots, hitting the frame of the goal quite a few times throughout the match. Our Dragons ended up being well beaten 0-12.

Coach Ali said "The game had plenty of positives even if it didn’t feel like that during the morning; we got 70 mins under our belts, played some nice attacking football at times and also stuck together as a team and encouraged and supported each other"

POTM today went to 'Mr reliable' Frankie who won every tackle, header and 50/50 ball which came his way, and put on a very composed defensive display throughout. Well done 👏🏻

We now dust ourselves off and look to start again as we travel to Rhos, on Wednesday, for the first round of the NEWFA Cup and look to get a decent result with a hope of progression to the next round.

We are still holding training on Tuesday where we will continue to build on where we are. We hope to see you all there.

A soggy one this morning at Abermorddu for our U12's as we put some extra training on for the boys before the start of the new season.

There was some good effort as the boys were put through their paces with fitness, passing, 1v1's and shooting on the agenda.

We were also treated to some 'special' dance moves as Coach Phil almost completed the splits in the middle of the pitch 😬

At the end of the session, typically as the rain died off, the boys who were present were treated to their new away kit and by their smiles... I think they are VERY happy with them!

It's been a little quiet during the pre-season with games being called off but we are still looking forward to getting back to normal when the season starts again in the next few weeks.

To try and get the rust off the boys, our U12's and U13's had a little evening friendly at Abermorddu. Both sets of teams enjoyed the run out and there were a lot of moments to enjoy throughout.

It seemed like a close game but the U13's got their win and showed the step up from non-competitive to league format is a big one.

Coach Ali of U12's said "The scoreline didn't tell the whole story. They were much bigger, stronger and used to 9v9 football. They looked massive compared to our lads 🤣

But we held our own, didn’t back out of a tackle, and deserved 3 or 4 goals overall. We played some nice football at times".

Some things to look back and work on but all-in-all it was a good time for both teams.

Today our U11/U12's had a Summer Social event at Ysgol Estyn where the sun was beaming down on us! Some could say that we were playing abroad 😎

It was great to see families of the players turning up and having a lovely time playing different games, having a natter and just enjoying the beautiful weather.

Towards the end we decided to have a mini World Cup type tournament which included all players and a parents/coaches team.

It was great to see everyone getting involved and laughing with their children.

Coach Ali said "It was absolutely brilliant to see so many families come along and enjoy themselves in the sun.

At one point I looked around and we had lads and dads playing football, girls doing gymnastics on the mugga, kids playing swing ball, badminton and boules, and parents all getting to know each other better over a picnic!

Today made us coaches feel immensely proud of the community we have built as a club and an age group"

Hopefully this will be something we can look forward to every year from now on 🐉⚽

⚠️ MINI KICKERS CANCELLED - Monday 13th July

Due to extreme temperatures forecast, we have made the difficult decision to cancel tonight's Mini Kickers session.

Safety comes first. The wellbeing of our young players is our top priority, and we want to ensure all our dragons stay safe and healthy in these conditions.

Please stay hydrated and keep cool! We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

We are sorry to have to make this call on our last Mini Kickers of the current year 🥲. If you are in the current Year 1 age group please message if you are not in the WhatsApp group as there may be some adhoc Summer Sessions for this age group in readiness for next year.

Our U12's played their second pre-season game by hosting Brickfield Rangers at their new home at Abermorddu CP.

It was a beautiful morning for football and it became a good old slog in the hot weather. A massive shout out to both sets of players and the referee, who all did an incredible job coping with the intense heat and bone-dry conditions. Playing football in that weather is no easy feat, and every single person on that pitch gave it their all. ☀️💪

It was a brilliant, competitive game from start to finish, which had the Dragons take the lead through a lovely back post finish by Elis.

Jensen came on after the hydration break and bagged a quick second before Brickfield found the back of the net to make it 2-1.

Jac got a third for the Dragons before Brickfield again attempted a come back.

The second half was a tiring battle, but our Dragons managed to hold on by adding two more goals through Jac and Arthur ending the game 5-2.

Player of the Match went to Jensen for his impact on the game and all round effort, it was amazing to see him putting all that effort in this weather!! Well done Jensen !!

Coaches Pete & Martyn said;
"Like the England game, we know we have another gear and can play even better football. But given the brutal conditions today, we are absolutely delighted with the effort, work rate, and the result. Very happy coaches today!"

We look forward to working on tightening things up across the pitch on Tuesday and we have a couple of weeks to put this together before our next friendly against Queens Park.
