Hot Rod Drags 12th – 14th September
Event no 5 and our last for this season was always destined to be an interesting one with the championship hanging on the last event! Stuart Flitton and Phoebe Davison had been close all year with just 9 point separating them going into event no 5!

Friday saw a dry but windy day with a pretty decent head wind on track. We had 6 teams testing, everyone put in some good runs but unfortunately Jamie Hughes had some issues with his car that put him, out for the rest of the weekend.

Saturday started dry but still with the head wind. Saturday saw 2 more teams joining us for testing, but both of those had some niggles to attend to early in the day. A heavy downpour in the afternoon put everything behind schedule and we unfortunately did not get to run our evening session.
Sundays weather outlook had looked poor earlier in the week, but day by day, hour by hour, it was looking better, but still unfavourable in the afternoon.

First session Sunday morning was bright and early at 9.30am.
First up was Paul Lorne and Phoebe Davison, both great runs. Paul nailed his dial in taking the win from Phoebe, but Phoebe took the round best reaction bonus with a reaction of 0.1201

Next up, Stuart Flitton and Steve Watson. Both of these ran under their dial in to break out, but Stuart breaking out by the lesser amount to take the win.

Pair no 3 was Sharon Carver and Mark Wade. Both solid passes with Sharon taking the win.

Last to go in round 1 we had David Mott on a bye run.

Round 2 was lunchtime, first pair out this time was Steve and David. Both good runs again, with David closer to dial in than in round 1, but not close enough with Steve taking the win and the round best reaction bonus with a 0.0678 reaction. This would also earn Steve the event best reaction bonus.

Mark Wade and Paul Lorne, Mark left first leaving Paul to chase him down. Better run for for Mark this time, but Paul caught him to take the win.

Next pair, Phoebe and Sharon. Sharon unfortunately rolled through the beams to red light giving the win to Phoebe.

This time was Stuart on the bye run. He ran a 10.5998 breakout on a 10.60 dial in, to not only get a maximum dial in differential bonus with a 0.0002 difference , and the event closest dial in bonus, but also to steal the closest dial in for the year lead worth 20 bonus points from Phoebe Davison who had held it since Sportman Nationals in June on a 0.0044.

Round 3 and it was all or nothing!
This round saw Stuart matched up with Paul. With Paul chasing Stuart down, he didn’t quite catch this time so Stuart took the win. Paul took the round best reaction, with a 0.2585 reaction time.

Next up Phoebe and Steve. Steve went red, but then so did Phoebe, so 0 points for either of them.

Then last, but not least to finish the day was David on another bye, to have his best run of the day.

10 mins after round 3 the wet stuff started coming down bringing our final event of the year to a close.

Hot Rod drags event winner was Stuart Flitton driving Necessary Evil with 98 points, 2nd Paul Lorne driving Out on Bail on 87 points and 3rd Steve Watson driving Bad Apple on 66 points.

Also, congratulations to David Mott on winning the NSRA Hot Rod Drags Dirty Dozen award.

After an exciting day of action with Stuart and Phoebe head to head and Paul who was sat in third in the championship chasing as hard as he could, we had a championship winner.

It was a chase right to the end but,

Congratulations to Stuart Flitton driving Necessary Evil.
Modified 100e Challenge Championship Winner 2025!

Finally, I would like to say a huge Well Done to each and every one of our teams and their crew members. We have had some fantastic action this year and some not so great moments too, but through it all, we’ve all kept smiling!
All the improvements we’ve seen and the spread of bonus winners has been great to watch.
Well Done Modified 100e Challenge!!

A series called ā€œmeet our racersā€

Meet Stuart and Jean with Necessary Evil.
Stuart found his love for racing when he started reading about Santa pod in custom car and hot rod magazines and then sparked even more interest after attending a custom car show an Ally pally.

He has been racing since 1979 in many different formats and every race car he has owned has made its way down the 1/4 at both Santa pod and shakey

I asked Stuart what he loved about being in the 100e challenge and he said ā€œI love the camaraderie in the Challange, the people in it are just the bestā€ Stuart also mentioned that Necessary Evil is the second 100e that he has owned which both ran 10 second passes and also both powered by Chevy V8s!!

Interestingly Stuart also has a passion for karate, he taught this for many years and holds a Dan black belt….
Let’s just say we are all on our best behaviour at our 100e challenge events šŸ˜…
