Veryan CC secured a thrilling 1-wicket victory over Wendron in a tense contest that went right down to the final over.

After being put under pressure by some excellent bowling and difficult batting conditions, Wendron were bowled out for 131 in 35.1 overs. Veryan had to battle hard all the way before getting over the line with just one wicket remaining.

The winning runs were struck by Oliver Johns in the final over, sparking celebrations after a nail-biting finish.

Veryan CC head into this weekend's fixture with a few changes to the side.

With regular skipper Ollie Young unavailable, Matt Dixon takes over the captaincy and will lead the team.

There's also a special moment for the Young family, as younger brother Fred Young makes his senior debut for the club. He is joined by Fred Burr, who also comes into the side.

Elsewhere, Tallan James returns to the XI, adding experience and strength to the squad.

A reminder that our first monthly lotto will be drawn in the clubhouse at 7.30pm on Saturday, after our home match against Wendron, to celebrate our 75th season to as a member of Cornwall Cricket League.
Anyone can become a member for just £25 and you will be entered into five monthly prize draws from May to September, for the chance to win £75.
All you need to do is either bank transfer £25 to the VCC account (reference should read 75, followed by your surname), or give cash to either treasurer Ollie Johns or secretary John Chaffin. A memorable day for the Swans as Matt Tregunna made 189* at Gulval.

We believe this is the joint highest individual score a Veryan player has made.

His record-equalling innings was supported by 63 from Gary Wheildon and a rapid 52 from Rhys Daniel as we made 353/3.

We dismissed Gulval for 189 to claim 20 points.
