Camelford 80km
What a day and what a group of horses 🥰 50 miles across the moor hits a little differently. Kelly L H Dennis and I rode with Missy Moo & Crew , Julian Johansen and Lesley Nott, we’d planned to ride together and we stuck together the entire time. We got absolutely soaked and could barely see 20ft ahead of us but we all did it and we all passed! Finishing at 11.7kmph and Kelly and Vilette coming 2nd in the PF and Mirrie and I came 4th. It was a special ride and with great company and we were all a bit emotional at the end. To get around 80km in the conditions we had and all come back sound is no mean feat. A HUGE thankyou to Victoria R Ham for running the 80km and having the kahunas to let the ride go ahead, it was debatable ☔️, can’t wait for next season 🐎🐎 EquiGlo

Not horsey info, but important info!!

Today was scan day and I’ve been given the all clear, I am “Cancer Free” 🧡 . What an unwanted journey it’s been, from my symptoms, to being brushed off by my GP, seeking private medical care, diagnosis, surgery, chemo and recovery. The recovery never stops, cancer free but not free from cancer. It will haunt me regularly but I have annual checks from now on so anything can be caught early. Make sure you are your own advocate and speak up regarding any health concerns

Bella the Broken 😞

Bella has been lame for a few weeks, she had X-rays a fortnight ago which came back clear, then she had scans yesterday which showed a tear in her DDFT. The long term prognosis isn’t the best, for now she’s going to have 6 months off, I’ll work her when we are well into the new year and see what happens. She’s field sound ( very field sound 💨🙄) but our lovely vet isn’t convinced she’ll stay sound with any serious work.
Bearing in mind that she has been due to be euthanised at least twice in the last 5 year due to accidents and illnesses she’s actually done incredibly well, going from having a digger booked to make a Bella size hole to getting her advanced endurance qualification. She’s an absolute diva. The plan is to give her a long break, introduce some work, see what happens 🤷🏻‍♀️, whatever the outcome she’ll see out her days here. (If anyone knows of any local stallions that are available by AI let me know 😉)

💃 Saturday Sass 💃
Polly and her pal Edith came to visit, we had a busy morning poo picking, then bathed Darwin and Macey and went for a walk to dry them off. Darwin needed reining in a bit by myself as at the age of 29 he still can’t behave 🙄 and wanted to stomp up the road at a million miles per hour, then the three of us went for a 5km ride on Tifa, Trigger & Mirrie. Trigger, another OAP not acting his age (27!) was a bit cheeky for Polly but she stayed calm and managed him well, Edith did a fab job with Mirrie as it was Mirries first time hacking with a mini jockey.

If you’re anything like me then most of your best mates you’ve met because of horses 🐴. Our group has a new page so that we can share information on who is going to what ride, the distance they are doing, crew availability etc. This will hopefully encourage more people to join in, travel a bit further to some amazing rides in Dorset/Somerset/Wiltshire and know that you’ll see some familiar Southwest faces. It will also great for arranging riding buddies and meeting new ones. Have a look and maybe we can tempt you, remember there is always 16km (10mile) fun/pleasure class at each ride too, so you don’t have to be competitive ☺️.

🐎 Pegasus 🐎
Last weekend we had a lovely ride around the Pegasus Trails, with the ground being so hard we just wanted to get around sound and look after the horse’s legs.
We completed the ride at 11.6kmph with Mirrie & I getting a grade 1 and Jenny & Vilette getting a grade 3.
Will buy some Farlap Equestrian photography photos when we get back from sunning ourselves in Greece 🇬🇷, a break away wondering what the hell the last 12 months has thrown our way and hoping the next 12 are somewhat less eventful.

☀️ 💦 Summer Fav’s 💦 ☀️
The two items that have been essential the last couple of months in this heat are EquiGlo and Salt.
EquiGlo ten minute beet has been fed lots. There is little grazing at the moment and the horses are out full time so we are keeping them full with a nice cold refreshing EquiGlo feed, also a great source of fibre and low in calories for those “good doers” ( Vilette 🙊!) it’s a wet feed so lowering the risk of impaction colic while everything is so dry is another bonus.
Salt….. they have free access to salt. I’ve tried to feed it so many ways especially with the mileage that the gang do, the only way I’ve found to feed it so they can access it as and when they want is by using a ByHiggins salt feeder with. If left in the elements the salt gets washed away so would definitely recommend these holders. The salt is a favourite and is used by them all year round 👅. They also have electrolytes in their feed but allowing them to choose when to have salt makes me happier.

Polly came for her lesson again. Tify has now officially retired from endurance rides ( she’ll still be out to some fun rides!) but she also seems happy enough doing lessons in the school. Should I be worried that Polly doesn’t look ridiculously small on her 🤔.
