Polly came for her lesson again, we had a run through a dressage test. She’s slowly learning her way around the school and I’m super impressed that she can keep Trigger going as he’s quite a lump in comparison to her!

CF Vilette and Kelly L H Dennis storming around 40km to win their class, Kelly is having a great first season 🐎 and I love the fact she’s been well and truly bitten by the endurance bug!! Now to try and peel her off Vilette and plonk her on someone else 😂

Boconnoc 2026
Last year I helped at Boconnoc because both Mirrie and I had surgery to remove tumours and chemo, this year I had a horrible fall at Dartmoor and a kidney infection so get around 64km after a grotty 2 weeks was the best feeling. It was Mirries first attempt at 64km and we rode the whole way with Carina and Rosco and it really was my favourite Boconnoc and my favourite 64km, we had the best day. Both Carina and I said the two horses felt ready to go out again and that’s how they should be. Thanks to Farlap Equestrian photography and EquiGlo 🐴 (lots of horses loved the EquiGlo over the boiling hot weekend!) The photo below is Mirrie whizzing up the end field at 64km, ears pricked and still full of steam 💨

Boconnoc 2026 40km
RV Arabella and Tish Pickles
So grateful for Tish jumping on Bella, having last competed her at Camelford in 2020 😱. I wasn’t feeling it after falling from her and getting a kick in the head, having a kidney infection and having ridden 64km the day before. It was so great for Bella to be out again and have a fun safe ride. The Day Memership with EGB is a great option, so give this the thumbs up if you think Tish should join us more often 😂 👍 😂

Beautiful Boconnoc
What a much needed wonderful weekend, after my fall and head injury at Dartmoor, then another trip to A&E this week after having a horrible kidney infection I decided I wouldn’t ride and I’d try find riders. I was unsuccessful finding someone for Mirrie on Saturday so I rode her myself for the most amazing 64km alongside Carina Kane and her boy Rosco, the two went great together and 64km felt like 10km, we had a blast. I found a rider for Bella for Sunday, out of the archive came Tish Pickles for a successful 40km, alongside Kelly L H Dennis with Vilette and Jenny with Roger. We are all feeling very lucky to be able to take out 4 super horses and have all 4 come back with great results. A real “pick me up” after a grotty couple of weeks. EquiGlo was guzzled by the gang and others who didn’t have crew over a boiling hot weekend 🌞 🐎

The arena has been busy tonight, Polly came over for a lesson on Trigger. Managing to keep him going and remember her course 🐴

Riding is a spectators sport for me at the moment (hopefully I’ll be able to get a hat on over the weekend). So great to see Vilette and Kelly L H Dennis having fun in the school earlier 🥰

Bella Boo on Dartmoor before our day went wrong, just 14km in ☹️ . Farlap Equestrian photography has been taking photos at our Southwest rides of me and many others for over 20 years 😱 and Sam who is the face behind the camera very kindly sent me this as a Get Well gift.
Please support the fabulous Farlap, she captures what will be wonderful memories 📸 I’m just grateful she wasn’t at the site of our accident as the photo wouldn’t have been so cheery 😅

The Dartmoor Ride

So many ways to start this post….
*Ive used another of my 9 lives,
*I feel safer at a hunt fun ride than an EGB ride,
*My riding hat saved my life,
*I wish people would pass you at a trot and nothing faster,
*I’m lucky to be alive,
* Thankful for my endurance buddies that looked after me and Bella ,
Or how about we go for all of the above 🤷🏻‍♀️

A somewhat disaster day at The Dartmoor Ride, sparing the details Bella and I parted company and then I got a kick in the back of my head.
My biggest fear of coming off Bella is that she’d just run and run and run, she is a typical flight animal but she didn’t, she cantered off a few meters then came back to me, a huge relief.
I am extremely grateful to so many people, firstly Jenny and Carina Kane who were with me and were super cool, then to everyone at the checkpoint, Claire West and Mark you were fab, Emily Notting-Hill the legend for taking care of Bella and feeding me sweets, the ride organiser Vicky for getting Dr Mike out on the moors to sort me out and getting my lorry out to the moors courtesy of Geoff and Ant so we could get the horses back to the venue. A shout out to Martin Browne and Rich Gold for being there and helping coz I was pretty useless! Others whose names I don’t know for keeping me warm and getting me a drink and just being bloody amazing! If I’ve forgotten anyone I apologise but I’ve had a bump to the head 🤕.
Bella dealt with the whole ordeal remarkably well, loaded, unloaded and trotted up by strangers. We had the horses signed fit to travel and our master cards marked as “retired on course” and headed home, I was passenger and felt ok-ish at this point.
However, I went downhill, I ended up going to A&E on mothers request, which I wouldn’t do lightly, I’ve have enough of hospitals the last 12 months. I had a 2 inch slice and a hole in my head, I’ve been glued, stitched and jabbed, x-rayed and am back home appreciating how lucky I am. Without my Charles Owen hat I would not be here. A quiet few days for me as the consultant said I have a “significant” head injury, I’ll be needing a new riding hat when my head is ready to try some on!
And again, a HUGE thankyou to all those that helped me out today and for the messages I’ve had since it happened.
Never ride without a hat, it doesn’t impress anyone.

I try to make every Friday night my “Date Night” with Darwin. He’s retired ( unless he gets pinched by Polly for the odd ride) but still loves to go out and have a nosey and make sure things are all in order. 29 years young 🤍 my absolute best boy.
