Day three of the Royal Cornwall Show… and what a washout it was! 🌧️

As many of you will know, today’s show was unfortunately cancelled due to the severe weather conditions, overnight damage, and the overall state of the site.

It can’t have been an easy decision for the organisers, but we understand how much the weather can impact events like this—especially when you work in the outdoor education industry, as we do. Our thoughts are also with all the other exhibitors, food vendors, and businesses who were affected.

We’re safely back home now, finally dried out, with a well-earned cup of tea in hand. ☕️

Here’s hoping for sunnier skies ahead

Day two at the Royal Cornwall Show brought a little bit of everything, sunshine, showers, and mice… lots of mice!

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, made a Boot Up badge, or created one of our little woodland mice. It’s been fantastic meeting so many of you and seeing your creativity in action.

We were also delighted to see a few more of our past and present students. It’s always a joy to hear what they’ve been up to and to see their smiling faces.

The forecast is looking a little windy for tomorrow, so if you’re heading to the show, lace up those boots and hold on to your hats!

A fun first day at the Royal Cornwall Show, despite the Cornish weather putting on a spectacular performance! ☔️

It was wonderful to catch up with students we’ve taught over the years and see some familiar faces from our former team members. Moments like these remind us how special our community is.

And of course, a special mention goes to the cutest sheep at the show, an absolute star!

We’ve arrived and the setup for Royal Cornwall Show x Boot Up is officially underway!

You’ll find us at Stand 773 in the Countryside Village — or, as we prefer to describe it, just by the sheep marquee!

Over the next few days we’ll be sharing our passion for traditional skills with green woodwork demonstrations, nature crafts, and plenty of other exciting things to see and discover.

If you’re visiting the show, do come and say hello. We’d love to meet you, have a chat, and share what we’ve been working on.

We are Boot Up Outdoor Learning, based in the heart of Cornwall 🌿

We provide supportive outdoor learning sessions for children with SEND, EOTAS, or any child who may be struggling to integrate within the school environment.

Our bespoke woodland site in Perranarworthal offers a safe, nurturing space where children can learn, explore, and grow through hands-on experiences.

Learning life skills never tasted so good 👩‍🍳🔥👨‍🍳

From curries to tacos, cheese toasties to chocolate orange cake and homemade pizza — our learners have been building confidence, creativity and independence in the kitchen.

Cooking is a great way to develop teamwork, communication and everyday life skills… and enjoy some delicious results too.

Sundials in the Spring Sunshine! 🌸

We’ve been making the most of the beautiful spring weather this week by learning all about sundials and how they work! 🌞

Using the position of the sun and the shadows it creates, we discovered how people told the time long before clocks and watches were invented.

The children loved exploring how shadows change throughout the day and seeing science, history, and nature come together in a hands-on way.

We’re looking for a practical, patient and kind-hearted person to work 1:1 with SEND children and young people aged 8–16 in our unique outdoor learning environment.

📍 Part-time: Wednesdays & Thursdays (term-time only)
💷 £13 per hour
⏰ 6-hour days
📅 Start date: Wednesday 3rd June

Happy 100th Birthday to Sir David Attenborough.

At Boot Up Outdoor Learning, we celebrated Sir David’s incredible milestone by exploring the natural world he has spent his life helping us understand 🌍💚

Using our garden and woodland, the children collected 100 different natural objects to create a giant birthday banner. Along the way, we explored habitats, identified plants and wildlife, discussed biodiversity and discovered how even the smallest parts of nature play an important role in healthy ecosystems.

Sir David has inspired generations to look closer, ask questions, care for the environment and appreciate the extraordinary wildlife that can be found right on our own doorstep.

What better way to celebrate 100 years of inspiring environmental education than by learning outdoors, connecting with nature and encouraging the next generation of explorers and protectors of our planet 🌿
