Houx is 6 today. SIX!!!!!
Which, in business years, feels roughly equivalent to 470.
When I started Houx in August 2020, I had no investors, no grand five-year plan and absolutely no idea whether anyone would understand a recruitment model that didn’t charge placement fees.
I just knew hospitality recruitment could be done better. Could be done faster. To help the volume piece actually work for businesses who need it.
Six years later, Houx has recruited for some of the best restaurants, hotels and hospitality businesses in the country.
I’ve supported openings. Cleared impossible recruitment backlogs. Recruited hundreds, if not thousands, of people. Reduced no-shows to almost nothing.
And, very occasionally, reminded senior decision makers that candidates are, in fact, human beings.
There have been brilliant months. There have been terrifying months. There have been months where I’ve thought: “This is absolutely working.”
Closely followed by: “What th f*ck am I doing?”
But Houx is still here. Still independent. Still doing recruitment differently. Still showing hospitality businesses that they DO need someone who genuinely becomes part of their team.
And somewhere along the way, Houx grew another branch. Houx Knew.
Born from the same belief that people deserve to be treated like people, not numbers, job titles or problems to be fixed.
So, while Houx helps businesses find the right people, Houx Knew helps people find their way back to themselves. Same roots. A slightly different kind of work.
So, happy 6th birthday to my slightly rebellious, occasionally exhausting, deeply loved little business.
And thank you to every client who trusted me, every candidate who answered the phone, every person who recommended Houx and everyone who has supported me along the way.
Six years down. Wowsers.
And yet, I have a feeling I’m only just getting started.
