What a great day of cricket vs Saltash Rugby Club !!

The inaugural Cricket vs Rugby day started with the ladies T10.

Rugby batted first and posted an impressive 263 from their 10 overs with Jess P (17) and Shannon F (10) leading the way (we are always looking for more players ladies πŸ˜‰)

For majority of the second innings it looked like Rugby might just have enough to win it, until a final partnership of Charlie C and Rachel S seen us win it by 1 run on the final ball of the match!!

An incredible game played in great spirits by all. Thank you ladies!!

The men’s game began with rugby winning the toss and putting Cricket in for a bat. Regular runs throughout from Andy Rennie (28*) Ben Hutson (26*) Shayn Rencher (23*) and Matt Lansdown (21) helped cricket reach 158/5 from their 20 overs. Ross Martin 1-22 and Rupert Alan 1-6 were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply Rugby had mini contributions throughout with some lovely boundaries and hard hitting. Greg Eatwell (30) and Lewis Woolaway (26*) top scored for Team Rugby but ultimately fell 32 runs short. Saltash’ Katherine Dore taking 4-20 and 12 year old Brody Williams bowled a lovely 3 overs as he steps through the gears in senior cricket - today playing alongside his dad Huw.

2 well contested games followed by some beers at the rugby club after made for an enjoyable day. Thank you to team rugby and thank you to everyone who came along to watch. Let’s do it all again next year!

🏏 A proud day for our cricket club! 🏏

Saturday was a special day for the club as Brody Nicholson and Riley Stevens made their senior debuts, becoming the 2nd and 3rd players to progress through our youth system and represent the club, following Callum Wykes, who made his debut last season.

Riley made his debut for the 2nd XI, sharing the occasion with his dad Mark as they took to the field together in a memorable family moment. Brody made his debut for the 3rd XI, another fantastic milestone in his cricketing journey. To make the day even more special, both players experienced victory in their first senior matches.

Seeing our young players develop through the ranks and earn their opportunities in senior cricket is exactly what our youth programme was created to achieve. Brody and Riley’s achievements are a testament to their hard work, dedication and commitment to improving their game.

We would also like to pay special tribute to Huw Williams, our Director of Youth. Since establishing the youth section from the ground up in 2025, Huw has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for young cricketers within the club. With participation numbers growing at a tremendous rate and players now progressing into senior cricket, we’re beginning to see the fruits of that hard work, dedication and vision.

For a youth section that is only in its second season, to already have three homegrown players making senior debuts is something everyone associated with the club can be proud of. The future is looking brighter than ever, and these milestones are just the beginning.

Thank you, Huw, for everything you have done, and congratulations once again to Brody and Riley on this fantastic achievement. We look forward to watching your journeys continue! πŸ’™πŸ’›

🏏 Milestone Alert! 🏏

A huge congratulations to the β€œold goat” Andy Dore on reaching an incredible milestone for the Saints! πŸ’ͺ

Now in his 19th season with the club, Andy has officially claimed his 200th league wicket - a remarkable achievement that reflects his dedication, consistency, and longevity in Saints colours.

What a contribution over the years, Andy. A fantastic milestone and one to be proud of! πŸ‘

A big thank you as well to Andy’s 2026 sponsor, Castlemead Accounting Services, for your valued support throughout the season. πŸ™Œ
