⛳ One of the things that makes links golf so unique...

Unlike many inland courses, links golf is all about firm, fast-running fairways and natural contours that influence every shot.

Around the greens at Cleveland Golf Club, those sculpted run-off areas can quickly turn a simple chip into a real test of imagination. Find yourself at the bottom of one and getting up and down is anything but straightforward!

So, what's your play?

🏌️ Fly it high with plenty of loft?
🏌️ Keep it low with a bump and run?
🏌️ Or take the safest option and reach for the putter?

We've posted previously about the ‘New’ holes at Cleveland designed by Donald Steel ⛳️

One of the things Steel became famous for in his course architecture was his use of natural hazards — allowing rough, dunes, contours, and the natural landscape to create strategy rather than forcing it artificially.

You can see this brilliantly across holes 14, 15, and 16 at Cleveland.

The natural links terrain shapes the decisions golfers have to make from the tee, with safer lines often leading to tougher approaches, while the more aggressive routes bring risk into play 👀

The 15th is a particularly great example, where the natural contours around the green make finding — and holding — the putting surface far more difficult than it first appears.

It’s thoughtful, strategic golf that feels completely at home within the landscape.

🌱 Should a golf course be green... or should it be great?

At first glance, some golfers see our golden fairways and wonder if the course is too dry.

In reality, these firm, fast conditions are exactly what make links golf so special. They're also a more sustainable way to manage a golf course, using less water while creating the running fairways and strategic shot-making that links golf is famous for.

⛳ Championship golf returned to the links yesterday!

It was a brilliant, if rather windy, day at Cleveland Golf Club as we proudly hosted the North Yorkshire & South Durham Championship.

With 36 holes of scratch golf and many of the region's finest amateur golfers competing, it was a fantastic showcase of championship links golf in testing conditions.

Congratulations to Carl Thompson of Close House Golf Club, who claimed the title on countback after finishing 4-under par over the two rounds.

A special mention also goes to Al Williams of Harrogate Golf Club, who finished as runner-up after an outstanding day's golf.

Thank you to everyone who competed, supported and helped make another successful championship. We look forward to welcoming you all back to Yorkshire's Championship Links again soon. 💙🌾
