Today I found myself saying to a client:

"An imperfect plan implemented imperfectly is better than a perfect plan not implemented at all"

Not exactly a catchy soundbite 😅

But it's one of the most important lessons I teach

Because one of the biggest mistakes I see people make is creating the perfect plan

🏋️ The perfect training programme

🥗 The perfect meal plan

Everything looks great on paper

Until real life shows up!

😩 A stressful week at work

🤒 A poorly child

🍷 A social event

😴 Low energy

💭 Poor sleep

As Mike Tyson famously said:

"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face"

And life has a habit of throwing punches 🥊

The problem isn't that your plan isn't good enough

The problem is that you're expecting yourself to execute it perfectly

When that doesn't happen, the thoughts start:

"I'm not sticking to the plan"

"I need more discipline"

"Why can't I get this right?"

And before long, what started as one imperfect day becomes another abandoned attempt

I see this all the time with intelligent, capable people who are successful in many other areas of life

They just assume that THEY are the problem

But they aren't ❤️

They're just measuring themselves against an impossible standard

This is why I encourage clients to stop thinking in black and white

Instead, I ask them to think in percentages:

💯 A perfect week

🟢 75% = a good week

🟡 50% = an average week

🟠 25% = a difficult week

As long as you're still on the board, you're still moving forward 🙌

Because a 25% week isn't failure

It's life

And real life will not allow perfection

And that’s ok, because it doesn’t need to!

All we need to succeed is continuity

🏋️ Training once this week is better than not training at all

🥗 Making a few mindful food choices is better than writing the whole week off because things didn't go perfectly

✨ Doing something is always better than doing nothing

The reason this perspective shift is important is because…

One mindset sees evidence of failure:

"I only trained once"

The other sees evidence of success:

"I trained once despite everything I had going on"

And that distinction matters

Because evidence of failure kills momentum

Evidence of progress builds it 💪

The people who achieve lasting results aren't the people who have perfect weeks

They're the people who keep showing up through the imperfect ones

Health and fitness isn't about being perfect

It's about staying in the game long enough for the small things to compound 🌱

So if you've had a messy week, don't ask:

"How can I get back to 100%?"

Ask:

"What's the next small thing I can do today?"

That question will take you much further ❤️ @ GymHippie

TECHNIQUE TUESDAY - SHOULDER PRESS VARIATIONS USING A BARBELL 💚💪🏼

Military Press: Press the bar straight overhead while keeping your ribs down and core tight - avoid leaning back or over-arching your lower back.

Push Press: Use your legs to drive the bar, then punch through overhead.

Thruster: Squat first, press second - let the momentum flow smoothly from legs to arms.

DO YOU KEEP FINDING THE WEIGHT YOU LOST? 😬

Have you ever lost weight...

Only to find it again six months later?

Perhaps you've done it several times

Lose weight
Regain weight
Start again
Rinse and repeat?

If so, you're not alone

In fact, it's one of the most common challenges I hear

And honestly?
I get it

The frustration
The despair

Because every time it happens, people don't just regain weight

They sometimes lose confidence too

They start questioning themselves:

"What's wrong with me?"

"Why can everyone else seem to do this?"

"Why can't I stick to anything?"

Now imagine doing absolutely nothing afterwards

No tidying
No putting things away
No maintenance

What happens?

The mess slowly creeps back in

Not because cleaning doesn't work

Because you stopped doing the things that kept it tidy

Fat loss works exactly the same way

Many people become experts at losing weight

Slimming World
Weight Watchers
Keto
Juice cleanses
Meal replacement shakes
1200-calorie diets

They know exactly how to create short-term results

But they've never learned how to maintain them

Because maintenance requires something completely different

Not more discipline
Not more willpower
Not another diet

It requires habits

Habits that fit around your life

Your career
Your children
Your social life
Your holidays
Your busy weeks
Your stressful weeks
Your imperfect weeks

This is why I spend so much time helping clients build sustainable routines

Because the goal isn't to lose weight once

The goal is to become the sort of person who can maintain those results for years to come

Without constantly feeling like you're "on a diet"
Without obsessing over food
Without starting again every Monday

The people who achieve lasting success aren't the most motivated

They're the people who stop chasing temporary solutions

And start building a lifestyle they can actually live with

Because anybody can tidy a room

The real skill is keeping it tidy

And if you're already on that journey...

Don't panic if you're not perfect at it yet

Building maintenance habits takes time

There will be weeks when life gets in the way

Weeks when the scales don't move

Weeks when you eat more than you planned

Weeks when you feel like you're going backwards

That's normal

Nobody learns how to boss *maintainance* overnight

It takes time

Keep reflecting, keep learning, keep adjusting, keep moving forwards

Because every time you navigate a challenge without giving up, you're developing the very skills that make long-term success possible
