👻 324 finishers, a frightening number of fancy dress outfits and enough Halloween spirit to wake the dead!

From witches and ghosts to things that go bump in the night, Reading parkrun had a distinctly spooky feel this morning. Some of you clearly took the fancy dress more seriously than others. We loved it! 🎃

🎃 Something wicked this way runs...

We're getting ready to rise from the grave (or perhaps just get out of bed) for our Halloween parkrun at Thames Valley Park.

We're dying to see you all there, whether you're running, walking or volunteering. There'll be no tricks from us, just the usual Saturday morning treat.

But before you leave the house, there's one little thing we don't want to haunt you...

! Don't Forget Your Barcode! 📱

Don't be a ghost in the results. No barcode, no result. Even the undead need to be registered! 👻

Dust off your trainers, put on your best Halloween costume if you fancy it, and come and join us tomorrow. We can't wait to see you. Have a fang-tastic parkrun-eve and we'll see you in the morning!

15 people defied RD Ian's run brief prediction that Saturday wasn't a PB day and delivered jus that. Congratulations!

Congratulation also to Elodie and Claire who hit a T-shirt worthy number of runs this week. Well done to you both!

We haven't had anyone at Reading hit one of the brand new milestones yet, but we can see that a few of your are getting close. We look forward to seeing those new milestone colours appearing soon.

Another fantastic parkrunday beside the Thames today. 🏃‍♀️ 🚶‍♂️🏃🏿‍♂️

BIG thanks for our course set up and marshals who helped with some last minute branch clearing to make sure we got our 5k in today. 🙌

Weather forecasts and half term meant if you turned up today you probably got a lower numbered finish token than normal. But the parkrun weather fairies did their best and it stayed drier than expected. 🧚‍♀️🪄

With Park Kitchen starting their trial run Saturday morning openings it was great to see people frequenting for coffee and helping to sort the tokens. Below shows EDs Ian & David meeting manager Luigi and barista Helen for the first time. 👋

Various reports for parkrunners include good coffee, yummy brownies and fantastic sausage rolls (Luigi’s own recipe). So we’d highly recommend popping along next week after your walk/run/jog! 🧁☕️

Happy eve Reading parkrunners!

This week we had a lot of people asking to do close-down this week so they could run and volunteer. The trick is to get in early or ask to volunteer a few weeks in advance if there is a role you really want to do.

But we're happy to report that our roster is looking good for tomorrow monring. We still need someone to help with handing our FInish Tokens, which is a key role.

There's always room for more, and more marshals, a funnel manager and a photographer are available if you'd like to help.

To grab a hi-viz for tomorrow, just email [email protected] with you name and barcode (that helps us find you on the system), and we'll add you to the team.

Also remember, tomorrow we'll be heading over to our new post-parkrun coffee spot, Park Kitchen, if you'd liek to join us for coffee, cake and general parkfaff!

☕️ 𝙉𝙀𝙒 𝙋𝙊𝙎𝙏 𝙋𝘼𝙍𝙆𝙍𝙐𝙉 𝘾𝙊𝙁𝙁𝙀𝙀 𝙎𝙏𝙊𝙋 𝘼𝙇𝙀𝙍𝙏 🍰

From this Saturday, Park Kitchen, right here on Thames Valley Park, is opening for a trial run of Saturday mornings. And we’d love our parkrun community to give them some support.

They’ll be serving hot and cold drinks, cakes and pastries from 9am to 12.30pm, so there’s plenty of time to refuel after your 5K, catch up with friend, put the world to rights, and maybe help sort the finish tokens.

It’s less than a 10-minute walk from our finish line. We’ve attached a map to help you find your way, so there’s no excuse for getting lost on the way. 😉

Come along, grab a coffee and help us give Park Kitchen a warm Reading parkrun welcome.
