We’re big fans of products that solve real workshop problems.

These do exactly that.

Faster inflation. Easier sealant top-ups. Fewer blocked valves.

Now available in a full range of colours too.

No idea why this is so calming.
It’s just a cassette in the ultrasonic.
And yet here we are.

Probably says more about us than the cassette.…

One of the stranger things we’ve found in the workshop lately.

An AA battery. In the bar end.

No, we don’t know why either.

You’d be amazed what turns up once bikes are stripped down properly. Not every odd noise or strange setup has a sensible explanation.

If something on your bike feels odd, loose, rattly or just not right, there’s usually a reason.

If your bike doesn’t feel right, it’s usually worth getting it looked at before the mystery gets bigger.

A new saddle can be a brilliant upgrade or a complete waste of money. It usually comes down to many things but fit tends to be the primary starting point.

This one is from Rule Components. Carbon rails, carbon shell, polymer padding and a compact 246mm length. It comes in 135mm and 145mm widths, with a claimed weight of 156g.

We absolutely love it and it’s a lovely bit of kit. But we’re not interested in selling saddles blind just because they look good in photos.

If you want to look at and test one properly and talk about fit, width and whether it’s actually right for your bike and riding, come in and have a chat.

Not everything interesting in cycling sits at the front of the mainstream conversation.

Lately we’ve been spending more time looking at the details properly.

How a bike rides after four hours, not four minutes.
Whether the finish quality still impresses you six months later.

Whether a product actually feels considered rather than just marketed well.

That’s a big part of the next chapter of Port Velo Cycle Works.

Carefully chosen bikes.
Brands with character.
A proper workshop behind them.

Officine Mattio.
BH.
Rule Components.

Different ideas. Different personalities.

But all interesting for the right reasons.

More to come.

Some bikes shout for attention.
Others don’t need to.

The Lemma from Officine Mattio is one of those bikes that makes more sense the closer you look at it.

The paint.
The lines.
The ride feel.
The detail.

Not built for everyone.

If you’re thinking about your next bike and want something a bit different from the usual options, drop in and have a look.

Coffee’s on.

Noisy brake with worn contaminated pads. Refreshed & upgraded with fresh pads and reset properly.

A lot of riders don’t realise how quickly disc brake performance drops off once pads glaze or contamination gets in. Power fades slowly so you adapt to it without noticing.

If your bike is:

* squealing
* lacking bite
* rubbing
* feeling inconsistent on descents

it’s probably time for a brake check.

Fresh pads, clean rotors and correctly setup calipers make a massive difference to confidence on the bike.

The SV is one of those bikes that makes sense the second you ride it. Fast when you want it to be, stable when the road gets rough, and properly finished in the way you’d expect from Basso.

If you’ve been thinking about a new road or all-road bike and want something a bit different from the usual crowd, get in touch or drop into the workshop for a chat. We can talk through builds, sizing and what actually suits your riding.

If the bike is still stopping doesn’t mean the brakes are healthy.

Clean fluid in. Dirty contaminated fluid out.

That dark brown fluid is degraded oil carrying moisture, heat contamination and wear particles through the system. Lever feel becomes vague, bite point inconsistent and performance drops gradually enough that most riders don’t notice it happening.

Fresh fluid means:

• Consistent bite point
• Better modulation
• Improved heat management
• Longer component life

If you ride regularly through winter, wet conditions or long descents, yearly brake bleeds are preventative maintenance — not optional extras.

The difference is obvious at the lever.
