We are one of the oldest hockey clubs in South Wales having evolved through several mergers over time. Llandaff City Hockey Club was formed in 1952 and played their home games in view of Llandaff Cathedral. Llanishen Hockey Club was established in the 1950's and these two clubs merged in the early 1980's to become Llanishen and Llandaff Hockey Club. There followed a very successful period, includi

ng winning Welsh Cups, which led to the club representing Wales in three European Cup Winners Cups. The first in Barcelona, the second in Gibraltar and the third we organised ourselves in Cardiff. For many years we also ran our famous Whitsun Hockey Festival, involving more than 60 teams from all over Britain and Europe. Subsequently, Caerphilly Hockey Club formed in the 1990's and a merger of these clubs formed Llanishen and Caerphilly hockey club in 2000. After 10+ years of being based at Hawthorn in RCT, the club in 2022 rebranded to create Caerphilly & RCT Hockey Club.

Our youth wrapped up their season with an incredible U10s tournament in Whitchurch a couple of weeks ago. Both of our teams delivered impressive performances, racking up wins and scoring some fantastic goals. It's remarkable progress from last year when fielding a single team seemed daunting. The boys' dedication and growth have been outstanding. Huge thanks to the parents for their tireless support, braving the elements to get them to training and games. We're also indebted to coaches Anthony, Hywel, and Rhodri for their invaluable guidance. Bring on next season!

Season Complete!

The 1s finish off the spectacular season both teams had with a very close, very unlucky defeat down Bridgend. But this one small loss won't dampen the spirits of the team, as we have all worked incredibly hard to improve from last season, which we have.

The game down Bridgend was going to be close, no matter who was playing. On a dramatic end of season twist, Johnny came back after a long absence, so the team were very glad to see him as they began the game. In the first half, Johnny wend around the keeper, getting him in on goal, but selflessly passes to Pete as he had a better angle (great team play there lads!). Shortly after this, the 1s conceded for it to be 1-1 at half time.

In the second half, Caerphilly had the majority of chances, however we couldn't put the ball in the back of the goal, which gave Bridgend the advantage when they counter attacked. A flick was awarded in one of their attacks, which was very unfortunate, as the team was playing so well. Unfortunately the keeper went the opposite direction on the flick, giving Bridgend the 2-1 win that they wanted more than us.

However, this unlucky loss doesn't reflect the season that both teams have had this year, especially the 1st team, and all the guys are happy with how they performed.

Bring on next season!!!

And with that, the 2025/26 season is over for the 2s!

The weather was not on the side of the players today, with the winds just before the game being strong enough to actually blow the goals off the line. But this wasn't going to blow away the 2s, and not even the hailstones dampened their spirits. As the game starts, Caerphilly hold the majority of possession, making good runs up and across the pitch. However, no chance was converted until around 15 minutes in, where Hamish crosses a good ball to Sam to claim his first of the game. Following the restart, Caerphilly keep the pressure on, and shortly after, Hamish gets a goal from a nice cross out wide. But for some reason, the 2s switched off then, letting Abergavenny through on goal a few times, but thanks to Will and Hywel clearing the ball, no shot was taken on the keeper. Later in the half, Brandon in goal makes a nice save on the edge of his padding, keeping Caerphilly ahead by two at half time.

After some strong words of encouragement at half time, the game restarts, with Caerphilly holding the momentum yet again, gaining a short corner within 5 minutes. Hamish then strikes the ball towards the back post, and Sam swoops in to claim another goal with a lovely touch. The momentum then switches to Abergavenny, who push the defence harder and harder, but Brandon makes some more great saves, keeping a clean sheet for majority of the game. The ball is then played down the wing by Brandon Jr and Anu, with a nice cross into the middle, Sam gets his 3rd goal. And then again, Caerphilly maintain the momentum and with some nice passes in the middle, Ross is in on goal, scoring right in the corner. But again, with 10 minutes to go, Caerphilly switch off, putting a lot of pressure on the defence, eventually giving a short corner to Aber. The initial strike was stopped by Rhod on the post, but very unluckily, it bounced to the opposition, who took his chance, and flicked it into the back of the net, but not before Brandon got a touch on it. So close, but yet so far, unlucky.

A great win for the 2s to finish the season, with plenty of goals to go around. Well Done Guys!

AND THAT'S A WIN!

Our 2s come away today with a 1-0 victory over Swansea 5s, a win that was well deserved, as every single 2s player worked their socks off all game.

The game started off well, with Swansea fielding a lot of youth players who were able to run around the Caerphilly players. Nevertheless, we prevented any attempts on goal well, and counter attacked even better. There were moments throughout the first half where Caerphilly seemed to be in on goal, and then they were prevented by Swansea, making the first half a long 35 minutes of end to end action, with a 0-0 score.

The second half saw Caerphilly ready to win this game. However, Swansea also wanted this win, so the level of intensity was raised. The players for Caerphilly were frequently making runs up the line, and getting ever closer to a goal. A lovely cross from Tom allows Sam to get a clean hit on it, striking it passed the keeper. The 2s then switched off, allowing Swansea to push back, however the strong defence and some cracking saves from Huw kept us in the game. As the final whistle blew, Caerphilly were glad to rest their legs after a very tiring game.

As this is the last points scoring game of the season, the 2s acquire a final 3 points. However, the 2s are back again after Easter to face Abergavenny Dev for their final game!

A close game for our 1s today as they gain an extra point in the league!

The game was like cat and mouse, with both teams scoring goals one after another. The first goal came from Mike who struck it into the goal. Following this, Whitchurch equalised, which meant that Caerphilly needed to get another goal. This also came from Mike who once again made sure that the ball ended up in the back of the goal. And once again, Whitchurch equalise. However, this time, the Whitchurch team puts an extra goal past the Caerphilly goalkeeper, managing to gain the lead for the first time in the match. However, with 5 minutes remaining, Twm takes a strike which goes in, letting the 1s walk away with a single point this week.

A good game, with plenty of promising moves, however with the season coming to an end, this point does mean a lot for the 1s players who have worked very hard to get to where they are now.

HM to Keith in goals, who made some cracking saves, after traveling over an hour from his peaceful life in England, so Thank You Keith!

WHAT A WIN!

Another great win for our 2s today as they return from Fishguard triumphant!

The sun was shining, the weather was warm, the team were fit, everything was right for the 2s today as they arrive. Even after being locked out of his own car, Jez captained the team onto the field to begin the game. The 2s began the game the same way we do every week, holding possession, letting the ball do the work. There were many breaks through, with plenty of attempts on goal, but the defence and keeper held us back. It wasn't until half way through the first half that the first goal was scored by Hamish, who takes advantage of a short corner shot going wide, hitting it into the back of the goal. Caerphilly continued to push for more goals, but unfortunately, they could not get any more on the scoreboard.

After the half time break, our legs were a bit better, as the water break definitely helped us get more energy, and we continued to maintain much of the possession. Hamish gets his 2nd goal off a short corner as he hits it into the far post. The game continues, with Fishguard pushing back slightly, but at a moment of weakness, the Fishguard goal is left wide open, allowing Will to strike the ball down the middle for Hamish to finish giving him 3 goals in this game. But Hamish was hungry for more! Caerphilly continue to push, with a nice cross from Anu over to Rhod in the middle made it's way into the D for Will to take a shot, and as it rolled past the keeper, Hungry Hamish came in, making sure that ball was securely in the goal! (Will was not happy his goal was "borrowed" 😂). Caerphilly keep pushing for more goals, with many attempts going slightly wide or hitting a foot before a shot could be taken. But once again, Hamish finds himself on the back post waiting for a cross to come in, and he gets his 5th goal, most likely securing a title of top goal scorer (Unless Jonny has a comeback next week 😉). Before Caerphilly could get more goals, the final whistle was blown, and Hamish is the only goal scorer of the match!

A great game today, with MOTM going to Hywel and Will in the middle for controlling the ball and being a key influence in the game.
