On behalf of Church Village FC a massive thank you to everyone who contributed to yesterday’s memorial match for Owain. A big thank you to USW Sport Park for giving us use of the pitch. Louise and the staff at Fagins Church Village for having us after the game.

An incredible total of £2350 was raised for The Brain Tumour Charity

The biggest shout out and thank you goes to Ben Ryan who did an amazing job of putting everything together for a great cause and in memory of a special person who meant the world to us all ❤️💙

On Saturday 30th May we will be holding the annual Owain James Memorial Match against Locksmiths FC.

Owain was a former player of both teams and was an integral part of the 2021/22 league title winning season for Church Village FC. By the September of 2022 Owain, just 34 years old was diagnosed with stage 4 astrocytoma after experiencing severe headaches and mini seizures and was still playing football for Church Village just a week before his diagnosis. Even after his diagnosis, his love for the club remained strong and he stayed involved in a coaching role with the 1st team helping them lift the Greyhound Cup in 2023.

Owain and his family battled with huge courage, seeking all forms of treatment not available in the UK until unfortunately Owain lost his fight in June 2024 just after returning home from Turkey giving it one last go at treatment.

2026 is the 3rd annual memorial match in his honour and is organised by former player, Ben Ryan with the support of our club. All money raised is donated directly to The Brain Tumour Charity.

Full details of the memorial match and players taking part are in the attached poster. If you're at a loose end Saturday afternoon and missing your football fix, we'd love to see as many of you as possible coming along to support. If you can't attend the match but would like to join us later at Fagins Church Village, you are all very welcome.

If you'd like to purchase raffle tickets to support our cause they will be availabe during the game, at Fagins or email the club at [email protected] and we will supply you will details on how to send payment (emailed requests must be received by 1pm on Saturday 30th May).
