🔧⚓ Getting hands-on with diesel engines! ⚓🔧

Three of our recent students got stuck into the RYA Diesel Engine course, expertly delivered by Andy! 👨‍🔧

From the classroom to the real thing, the day was packed with practical learning. Our training engine “Vicky the Volvo” provided the perfect hands-on setup to get familiar with the basics of diesel engines, fuel, air and cooling systems, fault finding and essential maintenance. 🔩🛠️

Then it was time to head down to our boats and see how it all comes together in the real world, with a look at the engines and systems aboard both our Sailing Yacht Northern Star ⛵ and Motor Cruiser Celtic North 🚤.

Because understanding what’s happening under the engine cover can make all the difference when you’re out on the water! 🌊

Well done to all three students — and a big thanks to Andy for another great day of diesel engine tuition! 👏

We’re looking for someone to assist our Lead Instructor on our upcoming:

📅 Sunday 13th September
⏰ 09:00–17:30
📍 Compass Sea School

You’ll attend the full course and receive your RYA Sea Survival certificate at the end of the day. 🎓

As well as taking part as a student, you’ll get involved behind the scenes helping our Lead Instructor with:

🧰 Setting up and organising classroom equipment
🏊 Preparing the pool drill equipment
🌊 Assisting with the practical pool session
👨‍🏫 Getting an insight into how the course is planned and delivered

It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn, gain a valuable qualification and see what happens behind the scenes on an RYA Sea Survival course.

🔧⚓ WE’RE RYA DIESEL ENGINE COURSE READY! ⚓🔧

Tomorrow our students will be getting hands-on with the basics of marine diesel engines — and there’s plenty to get stuck into! 🚤🔩

We’ll be covering:
⛽ Fuel systems
💨 Air systems
💧 Cooling & water systems
🧰 What spares you should carry onboard
🔍 Basic fault finding
❄️ Winterisation tips

And it’s not all classroom theory! Our training engine “Vicky the Volvo” — a Volvo MD2010 — will be helping our students turn theory into practical knowledge. 👩‍🔧👨‍🔧

Then it’s down to the marina and onto our training fleet to put those new skills to the test on real marine engines! 🚢⚓
