Introducing Sideline - launching 1st September!

Sideline is our new competitive hub for Huntingdon Pickleball, which is built around the Elo system --- Sideline is a fun and easy way to follow your matches, track your rating, climb the rankings and see how you’re progressing at the club.

It’ll also be a great place to keep track of upcoming events, competitions and what’s happening at the club.

And there might just be a few surprises to discover along the way… including some hidden badges and achievements 🏆

If you play in our competitive sessions, please sign up before your next session from *1st September*. We *need* you registered on Sideline before we’re able to record your match results and update your rating.
If you wish to play competitive but don't want people to see your scores or ranking then you can also opt out of being on the leader board within the hub.

Sideline is a website that is designed to function like an app for your phone or tablet.

You can make this an app on your Apple device; open Safari, go to the website, tap the Share button, select Add to Home Screen and tap Add.

For Android; tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner, select Install and create shortcut (or Add to Home screen), and tap.

A video showing this will come out in the next couple of days.

Sideline is completely free to use - you’ll just need a free Google/Gmail account to sign in and create your player profile.

We will be going live in the 1st of September

We have three socials in the diary over the next coming months, if you wish to join any of these events please contact myself, Ben, Alex or Susan for further details and bookings.

On Saturday the 19th of September at 7:45pm, we are revisiting The Welcome in St Ives. We had such a lovely meal there last time and the staff were amazing.
We have limited spaces of 25 people at this meal out so please don't hesitate to let us know your coming.

On Friday the 2nd of October we are having a vintage collage Social run by the amazing vintage collage & workshops by Laura.
We will be spending two hours cutting and glueing until you have an amazing picture that is framed. Myself and Thorunn have done this else where and really enjoyed it. Please let us know if you would like to get involved.

On Friday the 30th of October we will be hosting another Pickleball quiz night. This time it will be SPOOKY. After the success of the last quiz we thought it would be fun for you to try and win your money back. Once again limited spaces available, please get your teams to Alex and Ben as soon as.

Thanks Dan

Hey everyone, for the month of August we are introducing a Elo System to our pickleball competitive sessions.
Our very own Pickleball Scientist Ayman has been working on this for the last 2 months and has basically created his own version of the DUPR app.
The reason we have done this is due to continuous dupr games with the same players 3x a week can have a negative effect on your score.

Every player starts with a base rating of 1500 elo.
Ratings improve by winning games and decrease by losing games. How much they increase or decrease depend on the average of your team's rating and of the opponent team's rating , and based on how many points you won by.
If you are a really strong team with both players really strong and you win against a much lower elo team your rating isnt going to change much and similar for the weaker team.

The more you play, the more the elo system gets to know how good you are and where in the elo scoring you should be.
The elo system predicts what the end score, you just need to prove it wrong.
The elo system won't reset because its based on previous history.

Lets say I am 1400 rating, now the system expects me to lose most games and most people are higher than me. At some point the rating is going to stabilize and its going to hover around that number.

Now lets say i do some drills and skills sessions and come back better, the system still expects me to lose a lot of games. BUT I now start winning so my rating is going to increase and level off at the new higher points.

We will still be using the older system with the elo, giving you so much more information about your performance. The elo will be based on the points of the old system and all games will be 9 mins long.

Which is
0 end score - 0 points
1-3 end score - 1 point
4-6 end score - 2 points
7-10 end score - 3 points
11-14 end score - 4 points
15-19 end score - 5 points
>20 end score - 6 points
+1 point for a win

Everyone will have access to this information, so you can check on all your own progress, I'll be sharing a link with you all shortly.

The pictures above are an example of last months data.

Thank you Aymen for your hard work on this project.
Cheers Dan

Huntingdon Pickleball will be raising money by running a 12-hour pickleball event on the 9th of August. We will be running this event in the memory of Emma Cundell. Emma was a very keen player within the club and played with her parents from the very beginning, when the Huntingdon Pickleball was first set up. Emma helped shape Huntingdon Pickleball into what it is today; she aided in early decisions and helped Dan design our club logo. Emma was an absolute joy to play with and brought laughter to every game she played but never remembered the score. The score never mattered to Emma, it was all about having fun with the friends she had made within the sport. Very sadly, last year, Emma discovered that she had a rare and aggressive cancer and sadly passed away earlier this year at the age of 36.

We are raising money for Arthur Rank Hospice who supported Emma and her family through the most difficult times. I would like to thank you all for donating and to thank Emma's family for allowing us to run this special event.

Please follow the link below to book onto the 12 hour sessions and to donate to the charity,
Thank you Dan
