2025 Squash Club Championships
Date - Sunday 11 May 2025 1pm - 5pm

Venue - One Leisure Huntingdon

Thanks to all the participants who took part in a great afternoon of squash. Ten players, two courts, 23 matches, but the only statistic that mattered was another title for Diego, making it three in a row.

The handicap/plate winner was Sean.

Another highlight was a great game between Mike and Filip, with Filip just winning the decider 11-9.

Thanks to Alistair for the prizes.

Great day of squash at OneLeisure Huntingdon. The 2024 squash club championships lived up to its reputation as 'probably' the most prestigious title in Cambridgeshire squash, if not the world.

The competition featured four, yes four, international players in the draw, all potential olympians for when squash graces the games in 2028.

An inclusive, possibly ingenious format meant 15 men and women played out 30 matches of exciting squash in one afternoon, with all players having four matches.

Turkish national champion Mumin, and defending champion and Portuguese u19 no 1 Diego Pita were the pre-tournament favourites for the main mixed competition. These young guns had a few of the club legends to contend with. Marco P, Dan, Alistair, Matt, and former club champion John, all deluding themselves that they were at the required level to mix it with the best.
Into this volatile mix, the ladies contingent Michella, Ana and Claire played some great squash, with Michella ranking highly in the finishing order and taking the ladies title.
Special mention too for youngster Kieran, who started the season at number five for the 2nd team but showed incredible improvement to beat all his senior teammates.

Congratulations to Diego for retaining his title after a great final with Malik. Thanks to all the players who took part and Alistair for the prizes.

Thanks also to Huntingdonshire District Council and all the staff, thanks for the support this year. Squash is a great game and with the Olympics around the corner in 2028, it's a great time to encourage participation and invest in local squash facilities for this newest Olympic sport.

Good season from the Saints teams in the Cambs leagues. Solid 4th in Cambridgeshire division 1 from the 1st team, who were pushing for the title before injuries took their toll. Also well done the 2nd team who also finished 4th in their league.

A Monday night, 10 great squash players, 15 five minute matches, one crazy hour of squash mayhem; that's right the speed squash turkey competition is back and as epic as ever. Again, no turkey was involved other than the one that randomly chose the player handicaps but no matter; the chance to see returning legend Byron chalking up win after win more than made up for the lack of poultry prizes. Some great games included Geoff P seeing off Filip in the last point, and Dan junior brought the power again to beat John. In a controversial finish, Byron missed out on the final on a technicality and Harry took his place. In a classic final, crowd favourite Mark played great squash, but was edged out 20-18 by Harry in the last 30 seconds. Madness. Thanks everyone who took part.

Jonny N claims his maiden St Ivo Racquets club racketball championship. Thanks to all the participants. Great to see some racketball newbies bring out the big bats for 16 action packed games on a Monday evening.

Great day at the St Ivo Squash club championships on Sunday 23rd April 2023. Fantastic turnout, 16 players battled it out on St George's Day over 32 matches. The matches went to form and the final between Diego and Mumin was one for the ages. Diego took the title 3-2 in a quality final between two highly ranked youngsters. The handicap competition winner was Michella. Other highlights included a close quarter final match up between Harry and Marco and the novelty of a national emergency alert test interrupting matches. Thanks go to to Alistair for providing prizes, Rob and Matt for helping on the day and to John for organising the draw and order of play.
