Have a coffee or go proper clubbing.

Cold plunge parties. F**k off
Get in the cold, get out quickly, get warm then go to a bar.

In my book some things don’t mix and are destined for the scrap heap.

At Bro-ga we’ve blended something guys put off; exercise, stretching, meditation with something they enjoy, the socialising and drinking.

And we don’t drink whilst we practice the yoga!

A couple of years ago I was featured in The Sun.

The headline was…

“It’s Downward Grog.”

“Middle-aged men are being lured to yoga classes by the promise of free beer.”

😂

At first I thought…

Brilliant Matt, years of studying fitness and health and now you’re known as the bloke giving out beers after yoga.

But honestly?

I’ve never believed health is about being perfect.

I don’t believe in 100% diet compliance.

I don’t believe life is supposed to be chicken breast, protein shakes and saying no to everything fun.

I bench 100kg for reps, run sub 40min 10k and have 8% body fat.

But I also think health is about living.

Sometimes I go out with mates, drink way too much beer, laugh non-stop for six hours and wake up feeling rough the next day.

And honestly…

It was completely worth it.

Because the positive effects of connection, laughter, stress release and feeling part of something are massively underrated.

People get obsessed with perfection.

One missed workout.
One takeaway.
One night out.

As if health suddenly disappears overnight.

It doesn’t.

Health is what you do most of the time.

Not occasionally.

The healthiest people I know aren’t the ones living like robots.

They’re the people who train consistently, move daily, eat pretty well, sleep enough…

…but still enjoy a BBQ, beers in the garden, holidays, birthday cake and nights with friends without guilt.

That’s sustainable.

That’s balance.

That’s real life.

And ironically, I think THAT’S what keeps people healthy long term.

A big shout-out to everyone kicking off their 5-week Bro-ga course this week.

Whether you’re here to loosen up tight hamstrings, de-stress after work, or just for the beer 🍺 you’re in the right place.

No egos. No pressure. Just a bunch of guys moving better, feeling stronger, and having a laugh along the way.

Stick with it — five weeks from now you’ll be amazed at the difference a solid stretch (and a few deep breaths) can make.

A Southampton FC scout was caught hiding in the bushes, spying on Middlesbrough’s training session.

He then fled the scene and was tracked back to a nearby hotel.

Spygate 2.0.

I keep a careful eye on my PT clients too.

Making sure their lifting form is spot on, so they feel the exercise in all the right places and aren’t risking injury.

Like teachers, clients tell me I have eyes in the back of my head. Oddly, I feel like I kind of do.

When personal training with me — whether it’s one-to-one or alongside one other person — you can’t get away with anything!

I will be watching.

Just not from behind a bush with binoculars.

Most people think container gyms end up like this…

Rusty. Damp. Falling apart.

But that only happens when they’re done badly.

I’ve been running mine for over 4 years, training 30–40 clients a week—and structurally it’s still solid.

The truth is:
A well-built container gym can last 20–30+ years.

The container isn’t the weak point…
It’s the setup:

* Groundworks
* Ventilation
* Build quality
* Maintenance

Get those wrong and it won’t last.

Get them right and you’ve got a long-term, durable training space.

Cobra Pose is a great move for opening up the chest and loosening the lower back.

If you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk, driving, cycling or training, your body can start to round forward. Cobra helps counteract that by gently stretching the front of the body while strengthening the back.

How to try it:

• Lie face down with your hands under your shoulders
• Press gently through your palms and lift your chest
• Keep your hips and legs relaxed on the floor
• Look forward or slightly up and breathe steadily

You don’t need to push too high, the goal is to lengthen the front of the body and wake up the back muscles.

Like most Bro-ga moves, it’s simple, effective and great for stiff bodies.

Bro-ga — yoga for stiff blokes who need it most.

Most people think a container gym is the cheap option…

Not always 👇

Yes — they’re quick to install and don’t need loads of groundwork.
But turning a metal box into a space you actually want to train in? That’s a different story.

If you’re planning to be inside it at any point:
❄️ No insulation = freezing in winter
🔊 No soundproofing = echoes like a tin can

I’ve been in plenty of uninsulated containers… trust me, it’s not enjoyable.

So the real question is:
👉 Are you training inside it, or just using it for storage?

That one decision changes everything.

I was thinking…
Part of the reason I train, sauna, meditate, stretch, cold dip, fast…
Is because it’s hard.
And I’m drawn to hard things because of the mental benefits like resilience.
I hear new runners say “I wish running was easy” or “How easy do they make running look!”.
Running is hard for everyone.
We don’t run, fast, cold dip, strength train… because it’s easy.
Scrolling is easy ;-)
