Inver Fc v Embo
6th June 2026
Embo travelled round the coast to face an Inver starting side of mostly North Caledonian League players. It was a classic David versus Goliath contest, with the young developing squad taking on an experienced team accustomed to a higher level of football.
Inver looked to dominated possession from the outset but found it difficult to break down a disciplined Embo side, for duration of the first half.
Embo suffered an early setback when striker David Bell was forced off after 20 minutes following a painful ‘accidental’ stamp to his foot, forcing an unplanned early change and disruption to the game plan.
Embo 1–0 Inver (35 mins)
The opener came from an excellent team move.
A headed flick on from Innes was controlled by Aaron, who flicked the ball into Kegan's path. With the Inver defence caught flat-footed, Kegan raced through and lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper from 18 yards.
Against expectation, Embo led.
Inver 1–1 Embo (42 mins)
Inver came charging back at Embo and equalised just before half-time following a corner and a scramble in the box. Several players appeared to move back from an offside position before the final shot, but without assistant referees or VAR the goal stood.
Half-time: 1–1
Inver 2–1 Embo (50 mins)
Another set-piece gave Inver the lead early in the second half, with a crowded back-post challenge eventually forcing the ball into the net.
Embo continued to compete, but injury to our captain Curtis and others enforced substitutions gradually took their toll. For 70 minutes the visitors matched the home side , however, Inver's greater depth, experience and fitness began to show as our levels dropped.
The hosts finished strongly, scoring four more to secure a 6–1.
For Embo, there was still plenty of encouragement. A young side competed for long periods and remained in contention until late on against one of the strongest teams they will face. There may not have been a fairy-tale ending, but there was positive signs of progress.
Embo has a free week next week but we are delighted to be a half way meet to host Stromness Athletic versus Stornaway Athletic in the 3rd round of the Highland Amateur Cup 🏆
