www.royaldornoch.com +44 (0)1862 810219 Royal Dornoch Golf Club is one of the most revered and historic clubs in the world. Its Championship Course is an outstanding example of the links experience for which Scotland, The Home of Golf, is renowned. The first known reference of golf being played in Dornoch is in 1616 and celebrations to mark 400 years of the town’s association with the game were held last year. The club was formed in 1877 and the original 9-hole course was extended in 1886 by Old Tom Morris. Royal status was granted in 1906 by King Edward VII and Royal Dornoch remains one of just 66 clubs worldwide with the Royal title. Its first professional was Donald Ross, who was born in Dornoch and went on to become one of the finest golf architects, designing courses in America, Canada and Cuba. Royal Dornoch is a private members’ club but has, since its inception, welcomed visitors from across the world to enjoy the Championship Course, ranked No.5 in the world and No.1 in Scotland by Golf Digest in 2016, and the adjacent Struie Course, also ranked among the Top 50 links courses in the UK & Ireland. Honorary members include two-time Masters champion, Ben Crenshaw, 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie and five-time Open Championship winner, Tom Watson, who said Royal Dornoch was "the most fun I ever had playing golf”.

Today is Day – a chance to recognise our fantastic team who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our courses in such great shape.

At Royal Dornoch, Alexander “Dander” Richardson has been part of the greenkeeping team for almost 20 years. But when his pager goes off, he swaps his tractor for a fire engine.

Dander is a retained firefighter with Dornoch Fire Station, providing vital cover for the local community and across the Highlands. It’s a remarkable commitment, made possible by the support of Royal Dornoch and his fellow greenkeepers.

In the latest instalment of our Monday Memories series, past captain Willie MacKay sits down with lifelong member Duncan Bethune, who sadly passed away in June.

A two-time Club Champion, Duncan looks back on a lifetime at Royal Dornoch – from his childhood in the town and playing football for Brora Rangers, to caddying for the Duke of Sutherland and the characters and stories that shaped the club.

There are plenty of laughs along the way, including a memorable case of mistaken identity and Duncan’s wonderfully honest verdict when Willie asks if the Duke was a fair golfer.

Duncan also reflects on his involvement with the Juniors committee and how proud he was to see it grow into the thriving programme it is today.

Nearly £70,000 raised and two fantastic Highland charities supported. 💙

Thanks to the generosity of Royal Dornoch members and guests, the Captains’ Charity Fund has raised a remarkable £68,413 for Mikeysline and the East Sutherland Rescue Association over the past two years.

Immediate Past Captain Gary Bethune and Ladies Captain Rosemary Muschamps chose the two charities, with fundraising events, auctions and generous donations helping to deliver a fantastic total.

Gary presented £40,000 to Mikeysline, while Rosemary handed over £28,413 to ESRA... money that will make a real difference to two organisations doing hugely important work across the Highlands.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen. 👏

The AB Skinner Cup returns to our Struie Course tomorrow, with the club’s Juniors battling it out for a trophy first presented almost 20 years ago by Head Professional Andrew Skinner.

It’s a great tradition and a fitting reminder of the importance of nurturing the next generation in a town where golf is very much part of the fabric of life.

Good luck to all the Juniors taking part! 🏆⛳
