What I like most is the work he puts in away from matchdays and how he doesn’t quit when it doesn’t go his way. It’s just pure consistency.

Gym work done consistently, nutrition on point and always looking at what he can do to improve his performance.

Great to see that hard work being rewarded on the pitch.

Some start to the season 👊

Your gym work should make you a BETTER footballer — not just better in the gym. ⚽️🏋️

When you get your training right, the benefits transfer directly onto the pitch:

⚡ More explosive first steps
🚀 Faster sprinting & sharper changes of direction
💪 Stronger in duels and harder to knock off the ball
🦵 More powerful actions
🔋 Better ability to repeat high-intensity efforts
🛡️ A more robust body that can handle the demands of football

But here’s the important part…

Gym work can also work AGAINST you if you train the wrong way.

Too much unnecessary volume, constantly training to failure, poor exercise selection, chasing size for the sake of size, or placing heavy sessions at the wrong point in your week can leave you fatigued, sore and flat when it actually matters.

More gym work doesn’t automatically mean better performance.

The goal isn’t to become a weightlifter who plays football.

The goal is to use the gym to develop the physical qualities that make you a better footballer — while managing fatigue so those qualities actually show up on the pitch.

Train with purpose. Train for transfer. ⚽️📈

Getting stronger on the ball is not about looking big. It is about being hard to move.

Build enough muscle to hold your ground.
Train your core and legs because that is where real strength shows up.
Work on your balance so contact does not knock you off your game.
Then take it to the pitch and practice shielding under pressure.

Strong in the gym. Composed on the ball.

If you want a strength specific plan for your game, drop me a DM.

JOSH HEBERT: TRAINING PLAN JOURNEY TO PRO CONTRACT AT CHARLTON ATHLETIC

Joshua H

I started working with Josh on his off season training and conditioning which is such a key period that sets players up for the year ahead. Before returning to club football he had already followed his plan and attended group sessions led by myself.

Throughout the season Josh followed a strength programme aimed at making him more physically capable for higher levels and the demands of the men’s game.

We also worked on speed and power in sessions before his football training along with drills designed to help him apply his strength in duels and when shielding the ball.

He also had a setback with an unfortunate broken toe but during that time we made sure he kept progressing and focused on what he could do.

In March 2026 through his hard work and dedication he signed for Charlton Athletic. Hopefully this is just the start of a successful career in the men’s game where his development now continues full time.

GOALKEEPER TRANSFORMATION 🔥⚽️

This wasn’t just about looking better, it was about becoming a better goalkeeper from the inside out.

• Body fat reduced
• Lean mass built
• Max strength increased
• Explosive power developed
• Speed & acceleration improved
• Core & joint stability reinforced
• Mobility & movement quality enhanced
• Injury resilience prioritised
• Match performance elevated

Nearly every action as GK relies on a moment of explosion so as a player you need to make sure you’re training for that and putting yourself physically as ready as possible.

How to stay lean in your 30s 👇

1. Prioritise strength training.
Now more than ever, strength training is essential. The less muscle you have, the less lean you’ll look and feel. Muscle mass naturally starts to decline as you age, so do everything you can to slow that process. Aim for at least 2–3 strength sessions per week.

2. Take pride in what you put into your body.
In my 20s, it was all about calories and macros. Now, I pay much more attention to food quality. Is it highly processed? Is it going to make me feel better or worse? Will it keep me energised and satisfied? I use the Yuka app, it’s free and a great way to see whether something is actually as healthy as you think.

3. Get your cardio in.
Your body needs it. If you can no longer do the sport you used to enjoy, find another way to stay active. Padel, cycling, jogging, swimming, hiking, or even walking all count. The best form of cardio is the one you’ll stick with consistently.

4. Know your reason for staying in shape.
Having a strong “why” makes the discipline much easier. Do you want to be someone in your 40s, 50s and beyond who can still move well, play sports with friends or your kids, and stay independent? Or do you want to struggle with simple tasks, pick up unnecessary injuries, and feel older than your age? Your future self is being shaped by the choices you make today.

5. Stop winging it, you aren’t a kid in your 20s who gets away with doing whatever yet still sees some progress and recovers from injuries in 5 minutes. Invest in your future self and do things properly.
