A little holiday reflection â¤ď¸
These arenât my children⌠theyâre my nieces, which means I get all the fun bits and can hand them back when theyâre tired, hungry, or arguing. đâ¤ď¸
But honestly, watching these two this week has reminded me of something I think a lot of us forget as adults.
Happiness doesnât always come from the big things.
Sometimes itâs simply being surrounded by people you love, laughing at something silly, and being completely present in the moment. Maybe thatâs something many of us forget as we get older.
Laughing to myself now on the taxi back off memories of Evelynâs crazy and careless dancing and Esmeâs excitement when I taught her how to do a handstand on the pool.
The older we get, the more life seems to fill up with responsibilities, deadlines, worries and things that need our attention. Yes, those things matter but somewhere along the way I think many of us stop looking for the fun in the everyday.
What Iâve loved most this week is seeing how present they are. They arenât worrying about tomorrow, they arenât thinking about next week, theyâre just completely immersed in whatever theyâre doing right now.
As this holiday comes to an end, I think thatâs the lesson Iâll be taking home with me. To stop waiting for the next holiday, the next milestone, or the next big thing to enjoy life.
To laugh more, to be a little sillier and just simply be more present again đĽ°
Maybe growing up isnât about losing your sense of fun, maybe itâs about remembering not to leave it behind.
