🏏Machen CC chairman Dai Knox reflects on a successful summer for the club:

“It’s been a fantastic season this year. I would like to thank all the first team for their efforts, after a difficult start and look forward to seeing you all again next season to see how much more you can achieve as a team.

“The seconds gaining promotion is just a great achievement and one that makes me so proud.

“But having a 3rd eleven play so many games giving more members both old and new a chance to play has been a fantastic achievement.

“Big thanks to JC for his efforts and the grounds crew, special thanks to Pete. Just one more thanks to all of you for making this season so enjoyable.”

🏏Congratulations to Machen CC’s Jon Toghill who played for Wales over 50s 3rd XI in their Championship final win over Essex👏🏽
In a match reduced to T20 because of rain, Jon hit 29 off 20 balls and then bowled four economical overs for just 20 as Wales won by a convincing 46 runs 🏆

🏏Machen 1st XI finished 4th in SE Wales Division 3 after 7️⃣ consecutive wins in the second part of the season 🔥

Captain Raja Saddam Yousaf said: “I would like to thank everyone who was involved in this great effort, in the end finishing number 4 on the table.

“Initially we struggled but the way we came back was marvellous, as we chased down a target of 300 in one game, won by 10 wickets in another and won from crucial moments in a couple of matches.

“This means a lot to me as captain and a learner, because it was all started with positive intention and hard work.

“I am excited but a little sad because the cricket season is over, but it will be back soon!

Machen CC will be holding indoor nets in the New Year, we look forward to expanding our playing numbers again after the second XI promotion and fielding a 3rd XI for 7 friendlies.
We hope to run 3 league teams in 2027 to offer playing opportunities to all standards.

🏏Machen 2nd XI win promotion after finishing second in SE Wales Div 11 with 11 wins and a tie from 14 completed games.

Captain Jonny Cross reflects:

“Machen 2nds secured promotion on last game of season, even if not how we would like to do it with a rained-off game. Nevertheless 8 wins and 1 cancelled game in the back 9 has got us there up to Division 10.

At the start of the season we were always looking for top 3 in the charts. We’ve been chasing it for a few years now.

“The guys gave it everything on and off the field. Everyone always committed and everyone stepped up when it mattered. Superb bunch of guys to play with along with the banter that flies around. Look forward to doing it all again with them in 2027.”
