Recently, I stumbled upon a discussion on Instagram where a doctor questioned whether walking qualifies as exercise.

While I believe her intention was to emphasise the importance of strength training alongside walking, I couldn't agree more.

Problem is, not everyone can strength train or wants to. I understand, if someone is overweight the thought of doing exercise can be intimidating, uncomfortable or painful.

So while I agree that for optimal health, we need to be walking, strength training, eating lots of wholefoods etc....for some people it's not realistic and they can feel disheartened hearing the message that "walking isn't exercise".

So the good news is that walking definitely IS exercise.

I wanted to send a positive and motivational message to anyone who is struggling with their health that you can get HUGE benefits by walking each day.

In my blog, I cover research studies that show you how hitting a certain step count based on your age can reduce your risk of dying young and how increasing steps can reduce your risk of fatty liver disease, heart disease and certain cancers.

Also, I’ve shown a study on how timing of your walks can be really beneficial in helping blood sugar levels – great if you are pre-diabetic or diabetic.

Allison is 55 and, like so many women I work with, has a lot on her plate.

She works full time in a sedentary job, looks after her grandchildren, runs a small side business, and has two lively dogs to care for.

By the end of the week, she often felt completely wiped out.

For years, Allison described herself as a “yo-yo dieter.”

She’d lose weight, then gain it back.

Slimming World was her go to, but she grew frustrated, it never really taught her how to manage portion sizes or understand what her body needed.

When she joined me back in July, Allison weighed 157lbs.

Rather than overhauling everything at once, we started small.

Her first goal was simply to move more.

She began taking walks during her lunch breaks, and before long, her daily step count shot up.

It gave her a sense of achievement and reminded her that progress doesn’t have to mean perfection, just consistency.

As her energy improved, we started to make gradual changes to her food.

We focused on increasing her protein and fibre intake and building balanced meals that left her feeling full and satisfied.

Nothing was off limits no “bad” foods or rigid meal plans just small, realistic shifts that she could stick with.

Now, a few months on, Allison is down to 138lbs.

She feels more in control, less tired, and has even started a new home workout routine I designed for her.

What’s most exciting is that she’s not just losing weight she’s building strength and confidence along the way.

Because as women get older, it’s not just about what the scales say.

Holding on to muscle is one of the most important things we can do for our health, it supports our metabolism, keeps our bones strong, and helps us stay active and independent as we age.

That’s what makes Allison’s journey so inspiring.

She’s proof that with the right support and structure, you can make meaningful, lasting changes that go far beyond the number on the scales.

If you’ve been stuck in that same yo-yo pattern and want to start seeing steady, sustainable results, my 8 Week Kickstart programme is the perfect place to begin.

Dm me Kickstart and I will send you the details.

Here’s some of the investments I’ve made to better myself specifically in health and fitness:

Sports degree (3 years study) £3000

Sports Masters degree (1 year study) £3000

Gym instructor (6 months study) £500

Level 3 PT (6 months study) £1800

Level 4 Nutrition (1 year study) £1800

The reason I’m posting this is that sometimes I get ladies coming to me with the expectation that it’s going to be the same format as the dieting clubs they go to.

It’s not!

Dieting consultants have around 8 days training before they are let loose on the public.

My programme focuses heavily on education and undoing the damage that dieting clubs cause.

Especially around the restriction mindset.

It’s personalised one to one support where I dig into your lifestyle.

You get to benefit from all the training I’ve done.

I’ve learned it all so I can pass it on to you.

All of the qualifications I’ve gone through were tough.

It involved assessments and exams that had to be passed.

They were difficult for a reason.

Because they allow us to work and train with members of the public.

They have to make sure we are competent before letting us go.

If you see and recognise the value in that and want help getting back in shape.

DM me “value” and let’s see how I can help.

This might ruffle a few feathers, but I think it’s important to say:

If you're regularly following people like Glucose Goddess, JFK, Paul Saladino, or Vani Hari (The Food Babe) we’re not going to be a great fit to work together.
And that's okay.

I’m not here to mock or criticise anyone (unless they really ask for it ha) but I am here to be clear about how I coach.

🚫 I don’t promote fear based nutrition or extreme food rules
🚫 I don’t encourage cutting out fruit, dairy, or entire food groups (unless medically needed)
🚫 I don’t believe in “clean eating” as the only way to be healthy
🚫 I won’t make you fear additives, seed oils, or the occasional processed food

✅ I use a science based
✅ I look at your whole life, your stress, sleep, hormones, and habits
✅ I believe in education, not fear
✅ I support you to build habits that actually last

If you're into food fear, “toxins,” or believing there’s only one “clean” way to eat, I won’t try to change your mind. But I’m not the coach for you.

I know it can feel confusing to know who to trust online, especially when someone has slick videos, a book deal, or a big following.

Next week, I’m sharing a few of the science based practitioners I trust and learn from.

If you're tired of being told to fear fruit or demonise oats, you’ll want to see this :)

We’ve been conditioned by diet culture to believe that the work is "done" when we reach a certain size or weight.

But that kind of thinking is the dieting mindset and it’s exactly what keeps so many stuck in the cycle of starting over again and again.

When it comes to your health, there’s no "done" or "perfect."

It’s not about reaching a finish line; it’s about creating habits that support you for life.

Some days, you’ll hit every goal.

Other days, it’s about making the best choice you can in the moment, and that’s progress too.

Shifting away from the dieting mindset means focusing on consistency, balance, and showing up for yourself day after day.

Health isn’t about perfection, it’s about what you do most of the time.
