What a day we had yesterday at WelshBowl! There were spectacular picks, epic TDs, tide-turning sacks, diving tackles, game-winning XPs, score-saving flags and a boat load of fun! Thank you to our friends who travelled down to ball out with us! See you next year 😉

ANOTHER MVP!

This time Sara has taken Overall MVP for the Cardiff Valkyries - in her second year for the Valkyries, she also started playing flag with the Harpies, and clearly she has had just as much impact over at the Valkyries as she has had with the Harpies. Congratulations Sara!

And of course, we have our Overall MVP award. To be deserving of this award the player must have a profound impact on the game and on the team. There’s no doubt this year, that the Overall MVP goes to Sara. Sara played near enough every single rep both on offense and defense. Her talents for catching under pressure (sometimes triple coverage!) were incredible, and across the defensive side of the ball Sara made invaluable tackles, interceptions and gave pressure play after play at corner. Congratulations, Sara!

ANOTHER ONE! This time Zoe John - an offensive powerhouse for the Harpies twilighting at centre, she took Defensive MVP for the Cardiff Valkyries

Next MVP is for the defense, and this year’s winner is Zoe John. Zoe is a powerhouse of the defense. As well as causing disruption on the blitz and a force in many-a tackle, Zoe was also leading the defense as captain - developing plays and creating stunts on the sidelines (or…just Leeroy Jenkins-ing it!). Congratulations. Go celebrate with some more eye black 😝

Another MVP - this time QB Katherine getting Offensive MVP at the end of season awards for the Cardiff Valkyries (her contact team). Well done!

We’ve listed our MVPs, and we’re taking you through each winner 🥇 First up, it’s Offense!

Offensive MVP is Katherine. Last season we saw Katherine start to show her potential as QB, and her growing experience and skills really shone through this year. Across the season she has been calm and collected in the pocket and in high pressure situations. Connecting the ball with various players, running the ball (and herself) often into a heavy Portsmouth defense, and getting up every time with energy for the next play. Leading the offensive side of the ball, Katherine also takes the ranging players under her wing (let’s not forget we had linebackers as wide receivers..) and keeps the momentum moving. Congratulations Katherine ‘No Sweat’ Fret!

What an excellent way for the Harpies to finish off the WFFL season. With a reduced squad, the Harpies faced the Iceni Spears first up and secured their first win. It was a huge team effort, with Kira and Helen both getting touchdowns, and Kira, Katherine, Zoë, and Helen all getting picks!

The game against Iceni was followed by two losses, one to Cowen Cougars and one to Hyde Park Renegades. But the losses did not represent the effort - both games included some great moments, including a long touchdown to Suzie and a pick for Katherine in the Cougars game, and another pick for Katherine in the HPR game.

It has been an excellent season and the team has improved incredibly over the game days. Good luck to all the teams headed to the finals!

First snap of our first National Women's Flag Football League Game!

What a day we had with all players getting involved.

Some great stats from the day, with four touchdowns to three different players and five picks from five different players. When we said it would be a team effort, we really meant it!
