FitStart: Women's 6-Week Beginner strength and confidence with Weights programme, Breamore.
Next programme starts this Thursday, 7pm – with 1 space left

If you've been thinking about starting your fitness journey but haven't quite taken the leap, this is your sign.
FitStart is where women build the strength and confidence to make exercise and using weights part of their life. Over six weeks, in a group capped at just four women, you'll get five semi-private coaching sessions plus one full small group class experience, learning proper form with weights, building real strength, and developing habits that last well beyond the programme. Basic nutrition guidance is included too.
FitStart is right for you if:
• You're completely new to structured exercise or using weights
• You're returning to fitness after time away
• You want or need to learn proper technique with weights before joining a full class
• You want to build confidence gradually
By the end of six weeks, you'll have the strength, technique and confidence to move into our regular studio classes, alongside a small group of women in Breamore and Fordingbridge who've been on the same journey.
Booking is open online now. https://www.runfitfordingbridge.co.uk/fitstart

Not sure whether you should be doing more HIIT, less cardio, or something gentler for your stress levels? I hear this all the time, and there's a lot of conflicting advice out there about cortisol and exercise.
The truth is, it isn't about avoiding one type of training. It's about making sure what you do serves a purpose, whether that's building strength, pushing your fitness, or genuinely switching off and recovering.
That's part of why the studio timetable includes such a range of sessions each week, from HIIT and Turn & Burn indoor cycling, to strength work, PureStretch, Pilates, Yoga Nidra and sound baths, to sessions designed to benefit runners. Whatever your body needs, there's a session for it.

It's the 1st of September. How did that happen?
Meteorologically speaking, today marks the start of autumn, and it's also the day the new timetable goes live at Run Fit.
A few changes to know about. Turn & Burn now starts at 7:45am on Tuesdays. Pilates with Lisa has moved to Wednesday mornings at 7:45am. And Fit Box, the new boxing based interval class, is running for the first time on Mondays.

You skip breakfast because you're rushing. You grab a coffee before your workout. You've heard cardio raises your cortisol, so you swap in more HIIT, then read that HIIT raises it too.
Sound familiar?
It doesn't have to be this confusing. My latest blog post looks at what the evidence actually says about cortisol, stress, exercise, massage and menopause, and what it means practically for how you train and live day to day. Whether you're trying to make sense of your own stress levels or just tired of conflicting advice, it's worth a read.

If running is the only thing in your run training plan, you might be missing something.

Georgia Hunter Bell won 1500m gold at the European Championships in Birmingham this week. What's less well known is how she trains for it. She runs around 30 to 35 miles a week, but cycles closer to 100. As she put it herself, "It has allowed me to be injury-free and stack year upon year. That's what leads to medals."

It's exactly the thinking behind Turn & Burn Runners Edition here at the studio in Breamore. Structured sessions built around training zones to develop your lactate threshold, aerobic capacity and leg strength, without the extra pounding on your joints. Whether you're training for your first 5k or your next ultra, your running will benefit from time on the bike.

New Postnatal Fitness Programme — Your Input Needed

I'm exploring creating a small-group FitStart Postnatal programme (max 6 mums with babies) at Run Fit Fordingbridge, potentially starting end of September.
Before I go ahead, I'd love mums-to-be and new mums to help me co-design it — so it's built around what you would actually want. It only takes a couple of minutes and the link is here: https://forms.gle/ihGmRUc7HZLk1C8m7
Or you can email me at [email protected] and I will email you the link to the survey.
The survey closes on the 31st August.
If you know anyone else who might like to have their say, feel free to share this post with them too.

HIIT ADAPT – what's it all about?

Going flat out until you're wiped out isn't the same as training effectively. It can leave you feeling drained rather than strong, and over time it works against you rather than for you.
HIIT ADAPT is built around how women's bodies actually respond to high intensity training, drawing on the research of Dr Stacy Sims. Structured efforts followed by proper recovery, rather than constant, relentless work.
Not only is that recovery giving you time to get ready for the next effort, that recovery is supporting your metabolic health, protecting brain function, and building strength and lean muscle, rather than just wearing you down.

HIIT ADAPT is low impact and suitable for all fitness levels, currently running Friday mornings at the studio in Breamore.

FitBox – what's it all about?
Boxing with a punch bag is fun. It's a brilliant way to get your heart rate up and work up a sweat.

But FitBox is more than that, and it's new to the Run Fit timetable, starting in September.
Let's start with the basics. FitBox is a 30-minute boxing based interval class at the studio in Breamore.
I've designed each session to pair rounds on the punchbag with recovery-based strength work, drawing on research from Dr Stacy Sims into how women respond best to interval training. You get the hit of intensity, balanced with the recovery your body actually needs.
It's low impact, but high on results.

Class sizes are capped at six, so you get the most out of each class from your very first round.

Curious about how you can become a member at the Run Fit studio Breamore?

If you want to try Pilates, PureStretch or Turn & Burn, taster classes are available to buy online. It's the easiest way to get a feel for the studio and our community, and see if it's somewhere you'd enjoy spending time before you buy a membership.

For strength training and our HIIT based classes, it depends on you and your starting point.
If you're new to weights, or not confident with them, FitStart is your starting point. A small group programme where you learn foundational movements with good technique, and how to choose the right weights, so you walk into Sweat & Condition and HIIT classes feeling confident.
If you are already confident using weights, or would rather have a chat first, then get in touch at [email protected].
