We've been saddened to hear that Walkerburn RFC is closing its doors.
Their announcement is a reminder that grassroots rugby clubs don't survive by accident. They rely on volunteers, coaches, committee members, players, supporters, sponsors, and countless others who give their time behind the scenes to keep the club running.
Our own club is facing significant challenges. Over the last two seasons, we've relied heavily on a small group of dedicated individuals, and with four of those people now stepping away, we need others to step up and help carry the load.
Rugby has always been about teamwork. The same applies off the pitch. Many hands make light work, and there are countless ways to help, whether that's volunteering a few hours a month, joining the committee, helping on match days, supporting fundraising efforts, becoming a sponsor, or simply spreading the word.
If you've ever thought about getting involved, now is the time.
We are determined to ensure that our community doesn't lose another rugby club. Our club is more than just 80 minutes on a Saturday. It's friendships, opportunities for young people, a place to belong, and a vital part of our local community.
If you'd like to help secure its future, we'd love to hear from you.
