⛰️BMC Hill Walking Group Commitee Appointment ⛰️

Pleased to shout out our Co-Founder Luke who has been voted into the Hill Walking Group Committee.

The Hill Walking Group (HWG) brings together specialist volunteers who consider what the full offer for hill walking within the BMC should look like.

This includes, increasing participation, improving equity, diversity and access to the hills and seeking ways of spreading good conduct and safety messages.

We look forward to also become supporting the BMC with the delivery of BMC Member Walks .... Watch this Space‼️

Mountain Qualifications aren't just a certificate, badge or a title. They represent years of experience and dedication. The entry requirements for these awards are built on real world practical experience, and Mountain Training leadership schemes are nationally recognised as the benchmark for those working in the outdoors.

All our Instructors hold a qualification listed below and we ensure that they are current within their craft to keep up to day with beat practise. Our recruitment process is rigorous to ensure we recruit the right people for the activity ✅️

⛰️Mountain Leader⛰️
A Mountain Leader is a professional who is qualified to lead groups in walking terrain. Experienced leaders also operate with groups on Grade 1 scrambles such as Crib Goch or Striding Edge.

🪨Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor🪨
Expands above the Mountain Leader qualification and is additionally trained to lead climbing activities, including roped scrambles, mountaineering routes, rock climbs, and sea cliffs.

❄️Winter Mountain Leader❄️
Winterises the Mountain Leader qualification and enables the professional to instruct in mountainous terrain during winter conditions.

❄️Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor❄️
One of Mountain Training's advanced qualifications that covers summer and winter environments, including winter walking, winter climbing, ice climbing, and technical guiding.

🌍International Mountain Leader🌍
Builds upon the role of a Mountain Leader and allows for leading overseas trekking and alpine walking routes, such as the Tour du Mont Blanc. This qualification is internationally recognised and allows leaders to work across the Globe in recognised countries.

Unfortunately, people operate in the UK’s mountains offering guiding services without the appropriate qualifications or competence. If you are paying for the services of a leader, instructor, or Guide, verify their qualifications and be cautious of anyone offering services without recognised credentials.

Remeber you can always verify a leader by their name through Mountain Training or ask to see their Certificate or Dlog.

Out with a group of keen individuals raising money for Hampshire & the Isle of Wight Air Ambulance on their Scafell Pike Leg of their N3P Challenge. After they had an epic on Ben Nevis they still kept their spirts high and we powered through into the mist to the summit. Another busy night in Wasdale.

A very wet day for me and my friend Chris as we ascended through the clag and rain up to the summit of Rossett Pike⛰️💦

Thankfully the sun decided to come out at the end of the walk to start to dry the layers and we treated ourselves to a nice meal at Stickle Barn 🥾

We recently spoke to the BMC as part of following our recent volunteering efforts at the inaugural Big Walking Weekend. We explorered what drives us to volunteer, our highlights and what volunteering means for for our outdoor journey 🥾
