⛷️ Another great Sunday on the slopes at Alford!

A very warm welcome to all our new members and trialists joining us this term – it’s great to have you skiing with us! 👋🎿

Our coaches Kizzy Scott and Michael McIntosh had lots going on across the groups today.

🎿 Michael was working with our U12s and over, focusing on building pressure through the outside ski and developing stronger, more confident turns.

⛷️ Kizzy was with our U8s, helping them get forward and feel the pressure on the front of their boots through plenty of fun drills.

🏁 We also got in some dual slalom training as we gear up for the upcoming SSSA races – always a favourite!

Another brilliant morning of skiing, building skills and having fun, and great to see everyone progressing week by week. 🙌

🎿The new Gordon Skiers term is nearly here, with plenty of opportunities to get back on your skis, build confidence and get race ready for the autumn!

Open to members AND non-members – so if you’ve been thinking about joining Gordon Skiers, this is a great opportunity to come along and get involved.

🏁 Our Sunday sessions will have a particular focus on Dual Slalom training, helping skiers prepare for the SSSA Autumn Dual Slalom Series qualifiers in September.

⛷️ Thinking about doing your first race this Autumn? 🍂

The SSSA Autumn Dual Slalom Series gives young skiers from across Scotland the opportunity to represent their schools, gain race experience and compete in a fun, supportive environment.

Qualifying events take place at centres across Scotland, with successful teams progressing to compete at Hillend in the Scottish Schools Finals.

The Alford round on 27 September 2026 is a fantastic opportunity for local skiers to get involved – whether you’re an experienced racer or considering your very first event.

Now is the perfect time to join Gordon Skiers and get the practice you need for the SSSA Autumn Dual Slalom Series at Alford on 27 September!

Our experienced coaches provide supportive guidance to help young racers build confidence, improve technique and develop the skills needed for competition.

📣 WOMEN & GIRLS COACH EDUCATION SUBSIDY ⛷️🏂

Are you a woman or girl looking to take the next step in skiing or snowboarding coaching?

Snowsport Scotland has secured dedicated funding from Sportscotland to support more women and girls into coach and instructor qualification pathways. This initiative is designed to help remove some of the key barriers that can prevent participation and increase the number of qualified female coaches and instructors across Scotland.

💙 What the subsidy supports:
✔️ Increased female representation in coaching and instructing roles
✔️ Reduced financial barriers to coach education
✔️ Support for travel, expenses, and childcare needs

💰 Eligible applicants can receive up to 50% funding towards course fees and associated costs.

The first of our 2026/27 alpine camps is live and open for booking! We expect this very popular camp to be in high demand. Limited inlier places are available at £1250 per week, but this is reduced to £900 upon successful application for an SSC Bursary (very limited Bursary places available, and you must apply by 6th Aug). Outlier places are available at £80/day.

Bookings are now open for our week-long Summer Camp at Garthdee Dryslope, Aberdeen, running from 20–24 July.

🕘 Drop off: 9:00am | Pick up: 3:30pm

Our camp focuses on building excellent ski technique through racing, fitness activities and multi-activity games, making it perfect for young skiers who are ready to take their skiing to the next level in a fun, supportive environment.

The camp is open to both members and non-members, offering a fantastic opportunity for new families to experience Gordon Skiers and see what our club is all about.

Minimum requirements:
⛷️ Confident, linked parallel turns
⛷️ Ability to independently use the POMA tow
👧🧒 Minimum age: 6 years old (this is a drop-and-go camp)

Gordon Skiers racing team is delighted to announce the appointment of our new Head Coach, Madison Spence. ⛷️
Madison has been coaching with Gordon Skiers since moving to Aberdeen to study Law at university. Originally from Edinburgh, having skied for a number of clubs including LSR, ATC, BSA, and the Scottish Ski Team.

Since joining Gordon Skiers Madison has been instrumental in the club’s growth and development, helping to expand training opportunities at our home slope in Alford as well as running international camps to the English Alpine Championships for two consecutive years.

Madison said:
“I am incredibly honoured and excited to take on the role of Head Coach at Gordon Skiers. Having been part of the club for a number of years, I have loved watching it grow and develop into the thriving community it is today.

Ski racing has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I am passionate about helping young athletes discover the same enjoyment, confidence and opportunities that the sport has given me. My goal is to do everything I can to support the continued growth of the club, creating the best possible environment for our athletes, and help every skier reach their full potential.

It has been amazing to see what our athletes, coaches and volunteers have accomplished together. I am excited to continue building on that success and to help shape the next chapter of Gordon Skiers”
