Coach Michelle Braithwaite, (aka: Big Mama) is the owner and founder of Big Mama’s House of Pain. With over five years experience in the fitness industry, Michelle has done it all. Michelle is a proud mother of two amazing children and has been an athlete her entire life. She started playing sports at the age of nine, and continues to involve herself in the community through volunteering, organizi

ng charity events and playing slow pitch. On January 2, 2015, Michelle had her first Grand Mal Seizure. Two weeks later, she experienced another Grand Mal Seizure and that left her with brain damage. She was told by her doctor that her kidneys and liver were failing and that if she didn’t make an immediate health change that she would die. It wasn’t until this moment that Michelle knew she needed to lose weight in order to live. Michelle decided to take her health and weight seriously five years ago on May 15, 2016, and joined a workout program. She ended up losing 141lbs in five years through this HIIT workout
program. After working out continuously, she went from being a gym member, to working the front desk, to a full-time Coach and Sales Manager. It was here that Michelle’s love for fitness truly came to be. When Michelle was a gym manager, her location won the Community Votes Winnipeg Award for the 2021 Gold Gym Winner, during the height of the COVID pandemic. Unfortunately, a year after that, the pandemic made it hard to scale sales. With a heavy heart the gym was forced to shut the doors, leaving her and her community at a loss. Rather than sitting around and collecting unemployment, Michelle decided to take a leap of faith and open up her own business, BMHOP. In a short three-month span, she was able to relocate the members of that gym to a new facility. It was most important to Michelle to keep her community members together. BMHOP is not your typical gym. We are a family and a supportive community. We provide 30- minute HIIT classes through Brickhouse Gym. Our workouts are geared towards any fitness level, ages 13 and up. Here at BMHOP, we believe that fitness does not have any excuses or vacation. We as a community help keep each other accountable every single day. Coach Michelle says, “I want to help people live happier, healthier lifestyles and educate people on fitness. Ohhh my goodness would you look at this sweet face! Kind of resembles someone we know. Wait is that….?

If you haven’t gotten a chance to meet her yet, meet coach Krissy! You can catch this lovely lady mostly in the evenings! This little beast is one strong woman, who is helpful with mods and injuries, has a big heart, very reliable and has the most infectious smile and laugh! 🫶

In her spare time she has one heck of a green thumb, is a very talented singer and guitar player, and loves lifting. She’s had to work through a pretty tough injury herself, and still keeps going! True grit! 💪

We are so proud of each and every one of our TK13 challengers! It isn’t easy, and can be a big change! This requires focus, drive, and a lot of will power! Having to say no to a lot of different things, pushing yourself harder and further! But you rose to the challenge, and you all put in that work, and it shows! 💪

Hey, whose kid is thi…. Wait a second!! This cutie right here is none other than our amazing photographer, the man behind our website, and every challenge book, Carson!!

It’s likely most of you have met him by now, but if not, meet Carson! A very talented, strong, very genuinely kind, and hilarious man! 🫶

He’s often seen working hard in both his workouts and with his roles here at BMHOP. He’s also known for getting in trouble for talking during the demo “Carson, come stand by Big Mama” 😂

Outside the gym he has a beautiful family, and loves to draw! Saying that he’s an amazing artist, would be a massive understatement, especially when it comes to birds! Cardinals being the special ones! ❤️

He is a wonderful friend to all, and won’t hesitate to give you the shirt off his back, or have you laughing hysterically! As our photographer he has a beautiful way of making all of us feel comfortable too!

✨Motivational Monday✨

“Do not be stilled by anger or grief. Burn them both and use that fuel to keep moving.” — Maggie Smith

Movement is one of the best ways to help get out strong emotions. If you’re reading this, it’s possible you have done just this. Poured out anger or hurt into weights. Let loose on a punching bag, ran your heart out with tears in your eyes until you couldn’t run anymore. And that release, that release is everything! Allowing you to leave some of that pain behind, and also making you stronger in that. 💪

While doing that, the release is a benefit on its own, there’s also merit in purposely taking out pain and using that as fuel! Now not only are we getting that release, we are turning our pain into motivation to get farther and stronger. Flipping the script, even just a little on whatever hard situation life had thrown at us, and using it. 😱

At the end of the day, life is ALWAYS going to throw curveballs at us, and sometimes those are going to hit harder than imaginable. Find a way to hit life back, keep moving, and keep getting stronger in it. 🫶

Keep grinding! 💪
