Why don't I have a six pack? (Yes, actual question I received recently 😂)

The short answer is this: it's not worth the cost at this stage of my life...

I've had one. Several times. But I was in my 20s with not a care in the world.

Nowadays I pride myself on being ultra productive... 20,000 words/week in writing commitments, coaching 150 people, and trying to be the best dad and husband possible.

When I chase a six pack for the sake of one, all of that suffers.

My workouts go in the dumps, my sleep goes to p**p and I'm irritable and unproductive

To me, and the majority of the parents I work with, it's not worth the trade-off.

Some people have the genetics to look ultra lean and not suffer these side effects.

But it often takes a cocktail of steroids and a life that centers around the gym to maintain it.

Hint: Not things I have time for when diapers need to be changed!

I just find my body runs better at a little higher % bodyfat (if I go over 20 I rein it in so there's a fine line LOL) rather than trying to sustain 8-12%...

Right now I'm dialing it in with help from another coach Anthony and we're going to get me in great shape.

But I have no desire to get stage-ready lean anymore... More cushin’ for the pushin’... right Brittany Erika?😅

To be honest, I still fight those internal demons of not being "ripped enough" and compare myself to the airbrushed fitness experts with abs who are all over IG.

So reading this question from a random brought those doubts back to the surface.

But I actually find I'm more relatable to the majority of moms and dads I work with who just want to get leaner so they can be healthier and happier...

Better role models for their kids...

More adaptable to the stress of trying to balance it all..

Without prepping 30 meals a day and spending 90 minutes working out every night when they could be spending time with their fam.

Ain't nobody got time for that if they have kids like mine 😅 (I'm a pro butler...)

"This isn't for me. My metabolism sucks. Nothing works."

I literally shot myself in the foot with my thoughts two decades ago... desperately wanting to lose 50 lbs and getting NOWHERE.

Your job today is to develop new “loops.”

Rewire your subconscious for good through positive belief, and the outcomes you want will become easier to achieve.

I know this is a bit “woo woo” and guru sounding, but hear me out.

Imagine a thought loop as a pathway laid down by constant use. Visualize a downtrodden path through the field.

If you have a thought once, it has no power over you. The field looks unchanged, almost like no one walked through it.

But repeat these negative thoughts over and over again and the path becomes so downtrodden that it becomes your reality and controls you.

My old loop on repeat was “I’m an introvert and I can never talk on stage in front of people”

Squashed that.

Many years before that it was “I’m destined to be the chubby guy forever”

Squashed that a long time ago, too.

Everything is a learnable skill, and you can change any aspect of your life with belief and effort.

But it starts between the ears. For better or worse.

Any of the following are negative loops stuck on repeat:

“I know I’ll never be fit”

“Ugh I hate working out, it’s so hard”

"This food tracking thing takes too much time" (said while scrolling Netflix)

Instead try this:

“I’m on my way to being in better shape because I know I’m worth it and want to be a positive role model for those around me”

“I used to hate working out but I found a way to enjoy the process and the benefits of doing it”

"What gets measured gets managed, so I have to track my food until I know enough not to"

Always phrase things in a positive light and the path will be cleared to your promised land.

Why running sucks 🍆 for fat loss ‼️‼️

Excuse the chapped lips (missing Mexico humidity) but this message has to get out there!

I'm all for cardio but not at the expense of 💪 (a mix of both is probably best) as the study shared explains...

I know this is a hard pill to swallow, and believe me I lose this battle all the time...

BUT your kids aren't forcing you to eat their leftovers!

They didn’t shove the soggy gold fish in your mouth, you did.

They didn’t make you eat their half eaten McD's happy meal, you did.

I know it is easy to pass on the blame instead of taking personal responsibility over our choices…
..And it's hard to act rationally when our brains are wired for impulse.

But, we're grown adults and need to take control of our choices.

Assuming you aren't happy with your body, confidence, and energy anyway….

If nothing changes nothings changes, and living and dying with your excuses prevents you from finding solutions!

Let’s take personal responsibility and all be better for it!

SERIOUS RANT – I bet only a handful of parents will read these next 300 words... (that's how bad our attention spans have gotten!)

There’s a reason why every high performing parent who seemingly juggles it all prioritizes their health above all else.

Because without it, everything collapses like a house of cards.

When you lack confidence in yourself, you lack authority in your voice.

Your kids/co-workers don't take you seriously.

And then what?

You can't become the best possible version of yourself.

Your "best fitting" clothes will stay in the closet because they no longer fit.

You’ll start waking up with a cloudy mind and productivity goes down the drain.

You’ll start to feel the effects of the stress taking over.

The excess calories get stored as visceral fat between your vital organs and make you a ticking time bomb.

The lack of exercise sours your mood and drains your energy further.

Until one day you’re FORCED to take action.

Maybe it's scary bloodwork results showing a lot of issues underneath the surface.

Maybe it’s a tightness in your chest going up a flight of stairs.

Maybe it's getting tagged in a social media photo and not liking what you see.

Or maybe it's that favourite pair of jeans not fitting at all, let alone not quite right.

Whatever the reason, there’s always a trigger.

And it’s in that moment that you realize you need to do something.

Many get a fleeting moment of motivation but don't act on it.

But who we become is always an accumulation of our daily choices & habits, for better or worse.

So start making better ones and your future self will thank you :)

This ain't Weight Watchers😄fat loss is all that matters!

The result? 5.57 inches off the waist and muscle/curves in all the right places shows a night and day difference in 11 weeks!

(The best part is her MAINTENANCE calorie target is 2,200 now! Hint... that's the formula for making weight loss stick)
