I know you hear it all the time—you need to strength train!!
The most common struggle I hear from people is they KNOW they need to do it; but don’t know what, when, or how long, or how that should be paired with running.
There are definitely considerations to make while in different phases of your running cycle; and it’s important to use it wisely! Just like running—strength training needs to be periodized.
There is a delicate balance of doing enough, but not doing too much. Listen to your body—your strength sessions should HELP you, not hinder you. If you feel so sore, so tired and so overwhelmed from strength training, it’s a good indicator what you’re doing may not be optimal for you.
My athletes are often shocked to see upper body and even pull ups in their plan—but truth is running is a FULL body sport, which means you need to strength train your full body.
