What should I look for on food labels?
A: More fiber and less sugar. That said, ideally you want to fill your cart with whole foods - the kind without labels. You’ll find them around the perimeter of your supermarket, and they’ll usually have much less packaging than the stuff in the middle of the store. But when you are reading a list of ingredients, think of it as the credits in a movie. The first ingredients are the main characters, whereas the latter once’s play more of a supporting role… or just make everybody else look a little better than they would have otherwise. The reason they’re ordered this way is that, by the law, manufacturers have to list them in order of their weight. If you’re stumped between two products, just pick the one with fewer ingredients. It’s almost always the right choice.😉
