The air is cold. The fields are bare. The water is crunchy. Dislike. Grey season is here. White season will be coming soon. The kayaks are slowly getting their winter jammies on and the paddling gear stored away until next season. I think it's time to start making plans for next season. Big things in store for 2027. Look for some big announcements coming in the New Year.

Last night was the Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce 2026 Business Award Gala. A night of elegance, glamour, phenomenal food, ch*****ne, with great people all coming together to celebrate each other.

I was absolutely blown away to called as the winner of the Home Based Business of the year. To be chosen from such an absolutely amazing group of other businesses was not something I was expecting. So much so that I wasn't even nervous until my boss wished me good luck yesterday. Oh. Right. Im in this contest too. But there I was. County Waters Kayaking name being called to the stage.

So with that, there are Thank Yous that need said.

I wouldn't have been standing up there holding that award without a huge crew of help and supporters. I can't possibly thank all of them in one shot but I'll do my best.

-Firstly, to Myra, for despite the angst created for her child labour, she was the motivation to start kayaking again and get this business going.

-To Tyler, Jen and the whole Carriage Upholstery family for supporting the journey getting the business going and allowing me the time off to paddle.

-To Fred Brotherton for coming up with the name and letting me steal him away from Angela (an excellent proofreader i might add) to help with tours when extra eyes were needed.

-Jacqui, the first to paddle with me, she took the leap to trust someone new in the area. She has become a great friend and kayak freak like me.

-Danielle, who's energy and passion for paddling has given me renewed enthusiasm to grow and be better

-DNA Gardens for their catering and Trenville Park Campground for hosting us this summmer with our overnight kayak camping tours

-To all my guests, the smiles you share with me give me the most joy i could ask for. I appreciate each and every one of you. Without you, none of this magic could have happened.

A very special thank you to my love, Sean. His behind the scenes lifting, loading, fixing, moving, hauling, of the kayaks without ever complaining even when i get sand in the bed, means so much to me.

A final thank you to the Lacombe Chamber. I feel so supported, appreciated, and absolutely honored to be part of something so special.

Congratulations to all the nominees and the winners, and a big shout out to Evolution Catering in Ponoka for the best meal ever, to Joe Whitbread for the excellent MC skills, and to all the many business sponsors for the event. Thank you.

Today Im taking it all in. I feel like a million smiles.

I always thought that pulling my drysuit on and off was the worst garment I'd ever have to deal with. I was wrong. Ladies, I should have been warned about shapewear like Spanx.

Getting prepped for the 2026 Lacombe & District Chamber of Commerce Business Awards Gala in only 4 days! Wish me, all the nominees, and everyone fighting leotards, pantyhose, and tummy sucker-inners spandex torture devices, some good luck. πŸ˜†

Blush. It hasnt been easy but without the incredible help from Fred Brotherton, Myra, Sean Saltwater, Danielle Doig, bookkeeping from Sharon Muise, and support galore from Tyler Schafer of Carriage Upholstery and his incredible family, County Waters Kayaking would not have become the dream come true that it is. Thank you so much for the support and believing in me. 🩷

Well everyone, it is officially the worst day of the year. Our last paddle of the season. We spent the weekend on Vermillion Lakes and Upper Kananaskis in the snow and freezing rain just trying to make the season last one more day.
I will catch up with everyone in a few days with a recap of this year's adventures, thank yous, and what's coming up for 2027, but for now, time to go get warm by a fire.

What can I say about last night's Glow Night except WOW! Once again I was blessed to be kayaking with an incredible group of people. The weather was perfect, water was like glass, and the sky was gorgeous. We went out onto the lake as the sun was lowering on the horizon to meet the perfect sunset. Quite a few beavers splashing around and a few muskrats too. As the lights started glowing, the "oohs" and 'ahs" started (I love hearing those) and the night became magical. It was everything awesome.

Im so glad I got to share the last public Glow Night of the season with such a fun group. My heart is full, my smile is large, but Im also a little sad it's coming to end for the year. There's only a few more days of kayaking left before I have to rack the fleet for the season. If youd like to book, now is the time. As the weather has cooled down considerably and dusk is coming sooner, I'll be keeping the tours strictly to Lacombe Lake, Middle Chain, and Magee.

Available Monday-Wednesday this coming week 5pm-7pm so you can get a sunset experience. Give me a call 780-605-3688

This Saturday is our last public Glow Night with no minimum booking numbers this season. If you have wanted to try the night paddle and haven't had the chance, now's the time to book. Launching 630pm on Lacombe Lake. We kayak the sunset then enjoy the vibrancy of a Glow.

Our Glow Nights include illuminated kayak for each person complete with underwater and deck lighting, glow sticks, pfd and paddle, safety equipment, waterproof phone case, waterproof bag for your extra jacket and gloves, even a waterproof lap pad to make sure your dry from little drips and dribbles. We pull you into and out of the water to keep your feet warm and dry too. We have thought of everything.

$75/person. Still room for 4 more to join the night. Phone 780-605-3688 for information and booking.

You dont see me much on social media because I dont like to be. Yesterday I was pushed WAY out of my comfort zone doing a quick interview for the Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce. I felt horribly self conscious doing this. But here's the thing. I DID IT. Being nominated for a business award has more behind the scenes steps than i anticipated. Phew!

You may notice that Im not young, I'm not fit, and Im definitely not who most would picture being out there paddling nearly every single day, but here I am. I can paddle all day, look after my guests safety, and have the skills to make sure I can physically rescue you if ever an emergency were to happen (like should a whale breach on the lake and land on your kayak, I can get you back in it and to shore. Or you do something silly and leap out of your kayak lol)

Kayaking doesn't need you to be built like super model, young, or even have all your factory parts like hips and knees. Kayaking just needs you to be willing to try. Put yourself out of your comfort zone for just a minute and you may find that youll be proud of yourself too for doing something new.

Our tours are easy paddling, we have kayaks that are easy to get in and out of, and we always keep a relaxed pace for all activity levels.

Only a few more weeks of paddling before the ice comes. Today we are on Lacombe Lake at 5pm with room for more to join. Give me a call at 780-605-3688 for information and booking.
