💚 HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandads, father figures and special people in our Warrnambool Basketball community.

Thank you for all the early mornings, late nights, kilometres travelled, sidelines cheered from, scorebenches covered, teams coached and countless hours spent supporting our basketballers. Thank you for the encouragement, guidance and care you provide, both on and off the court.

And a special shout out to the dads who are still pulling on the singlet themselves! Whether you’re playing Big V or Divvy 4, knocking down threes, battling under the boards or just hoping the body holds together for another game, we love that you’re still out there doing what you love. 🏀

🏀 COMPETITION COACHING COURSE | WARRNAMBOOL

We’re excited to be hosting a Basketball Victoria Competition Coaching Course right here in Warrnambool this September!

Designed for coaches working across junior and senior club competitions, the Competition Coach pathway supports coaches to continue developing their knowledge, confidence and practical coaching skills.

The course focuses on areas including:

🏀 Teaching and refining basketball skills
🏀 Introducing offensive and defensive team concepts
🏀 Planning and delivering effective training sessions
🏀 Supporting athlete development in competitive environments

Completion of the online learning and six hour practical session leads to Competition Bronze accreditation, with coaches then able to continue progressing through Silver and Gold by earning Coach Development Points through ongoing coaching and learning.

📅 Sunday 13 September
⏰ 10am – 4pm
📍 Warrnambool Stadium
💰 $150 per coach

Online training will be provided following registration and must be completed along with the practical component to complete the course.

Having this course delivered locally is a fantastic opportunity for coaches across Warrnambool and the wider region to invest in their development and continue building the quality of coaching in our basketball community.

🏀 Calling our next generation of basketballers! 🏀

Registrations are now open for Term 4 Norton Motor Group Aussie Hoops & U10's with Warrnambool Basketball! 💚

Aussie Hoops & U10's is the perfect introduction to basketball, giving children the opportunity to learn the game in a fun, safe and supportive environment while making new friends and building confidence.

Whether your child is picking up a basketball for the very first time or ready to keep developing their skills, this is the perfect place to start.

🏀 8-week program

📅 Starts Thursday 15 October

🏀 Aussie Hoops (5–8 years): 4:15pm – 5:00pm

🏀 U10's (9–10 years): 5:00pm – 6:00pm

Across the program, participants will learn the fundamentals of basketball through fun, engaging activities and games, building skills and confidence along the way.

🏀 CBL MERMAIDS COACHES ANNOUNCED

Warrnambool Basketball is excited to announce Ricky Smedts as Head Coach and Louise Brown as Assistant Coach of our 2026 CBL Mermaids.

Both Ricky and Louise are well known within Warrnambool Basketball and bring a wealth of coaching experience and basketball knowledge to the program.

Ricky steps into the Head Coach role after serving as Assistant Coach of our Big V Mermaids throughout the 2026 season, bringing strong experience and a great understanding of our senior women’s program.

Joining Ricky is Louise Brown as Assistant Coach. Louise has been Head Coach of our Big V Mermaids and brings significant experience both as a coach and from her own playing career, which included time at WNBL level.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have two incredible coaches leading our CBL Mermaids and supporting the continued development of our senior women’s program.

🏀 CBL SEAHAWKS COACHES ANNOUNCED

Warrnambool Basketball is excited to announce the coaching team for our 2026 CBL Seahawks.

We’re delighted to welcome back Mike McGorm as Head Coach. Mike brings a wealth of coaching experience and basketball knowledge to the role, and we’re excited to have him continuing to lead our CBL Seahawks in 2026.

Joining Mike this season is Riley Nicholson as Assistant Coach. A fantastic player for Warrnambool Basketball, we’re excited to see Riley now step into a coaching role as well and share his playing experience and basketball knowledge with the CBL Seahawks.

With our coaching team locked in, it’s time to hit the court!

CBL Seahawks tryouts are coming up next week, with both Open and Youth (U20) teams to be selected.

Whether you’re an experienced senior player or a young player ready to take the next step in your basketball, we’d love to see you at tryouts.

🏀 CONGRATULATIONS THOMAS & LIAM!

A huge congratulations to two of our Warrnambool referees on their Big V Grand Final appointments this season.

👏 Liam Smith was appointed to the Division 2 Women Grand Final, held on 25 July.

👏 Thomas Cossens has been appointed to the Division 1 Men Grand Final tonight, with Blackburn taking on Chelsea at Mullum Mullum Stadium.

It’s great to see Warrnambool officials representing our association at this level and being recognised with opportunities on the Big V stage. Super proud of you both!

🏀 SUMMER DOMESTIC REGISTRATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

As another domestic season comes to an end and finals approach, it’s already time to turn our attention to the Summer Domestic Season!

Registrations are now open for all junior players.

All players selected in a Warrnambool Basketball Junior Representative team are required to participate in the Summer Domestic Competition.
