Early bird registrations for the U12 Country Skills Days are now open!

The 2026 Country Skills Days will be held on Saturday 25th July and Sunday 26th July at 10 regional academies across Victoria.

These Skill Day events are part of a development program for players of all abilities and standards from all associations located in regional Victoria. This will be an opportunity for identified athletes to be selected to participate in the U12 Country Jamboree in Echuca in September!

A huge congratulations to Sophie Byrne, Nina Roll, Gretta Heggie and Adele Pinkerton on their selection in the Vic Country teams for the 2026 Country Metro Challenge.

Selection in a Vic Country team is a fantastic achievement and recognition of the hard work, commitment and dedication these athletes continue to show both on and off the court.

The Country Metro Challenge brings together some of Victoria's most talented young basketballers and provides an incredible opportunity to compete, learn and continue developing their game.

We are incredibly proud of Sophie, Nina, Gretta and Adele and know they will represent Warrnambool Basketball and Vic Country with pride.

Following our Annual General Meeting, we are pleased to introduce the Warrnambool Basketball Board for the coming year.

🟒 Paul Barker – Treasurer
🟒 Nathan Divall – Seahawks & Mermaids Delegate
🟒 Kristin Cornell – Junior Working Group Delegate
🟒 Thomas Cossens – Referee Delegate
🟒 Louise Brown – General Board Member

We would also like to acknowledge some significant contributions to Warrnambool Basketball.

A huge thank you to Paul Barker, who has served as President over the past period. Paul has provided great leadership, countless volunteer hours and brought a genuine passion for Warrnambool Basketball. His steady presence and commitment to our association have helped guide us through a period of growth and change, and we are delighted that Paul will continue to contribute as Treasurer.

Thank you also to Helen Derzsi, who has stepped down from her Board position after many years of service. We thank Helen for her contribution to the Board and Warrnambool Basketball over that time. Helen continues to be involved with our Referee Program and we appreciate her ongoing contribution to the association.

We also welcome Nathan Divall and Thomas Cossens to the Board in their new roles as Seahawks & Mermaids Delegate and Referee Delegate respectively. We thank Louise Brown and Helen Derzsi for their contributions in these positions and appreciate their continued involvement with Warrnambool Basketball.

Finally, a very special thank you to Jeff Hintum, who has stepped down as Treasurer. Jeff has served Warrnambool Basketball in numerous capacities over many years, including committee and Board roles. There is not much Jeff has not done within our association. His knowledge, experience and willingness to help have been invaluable, and his contribution to Warrnambool Basketball has been significant.

We look forward to continuing to build a strong, connected and thriving basketball community for our players, coaches, officials, volunteers and families.

Huge congratulations to Marcus Herbert on being drafted to the West Coast Eagles.

Marcus was an outstanding junior basketballer who proudly represented Warrnambool Basketball throughout his teenage years, as well as representing Country Victoria at the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup.

A fantastic athlete, a great person, and someone our basketball community is incredibly proud of.

Two big challenges ahead, with the Sherbrooke Suns men’s team sitting unbeaten on top of the ladder, while the Sherbrooke Suns women currently sit in third place.

Warrnambool Basketball is excited to announce the first group of Junior Representative/Squad Coaches for the upcoming 2026/27 season.

We are incredibly grateful for the time, passion and commitment these coaches continue to give to our players and program. Our coaches play such an important role in helping young athletes develop not only their basketball skills, but also confidence, teamwork, resilience and a love for the game.

At Warrnambool Basketball, we remain committed to creating a positive and supportive pathway for all players across our representative program, and we’re excited for another big season ahead πŸ’š

This announcement includes our Championship Coaches, with Development Coaches and remaining Championship Coach appointments to be announced following team selections.
