Women’s Over 30 Division 1 Preliminary Final
Oak Flats Kraken vs Thirroul Thunderbirds

In the penultimate game of the season the League Champions Oak Flats take on third placed Thirroul Thunderbirds for the right to challenge Kiama Quarriers in the Grand Final. Kiama booked their place by defeating Oak Flats in the Major Semi-final, while the Thunderbirds have gotten this far by defeating Albion Park White Eagles in the Minor Semi-final.

On paper there’s little to pick between the teams though Oak Flats won both matches between the teams during the season. However, the Thunderbirds have shown improved form recently and were commanding in their Semi-final win over Albion Park.

Women’s All Age Division 1 Minor Semi-final
Thirroul Thunderbirds vs Moss Vale

It was a busy weekend for the women’s teams a Thirroul. This match was preceded by a Minor Semi-final for the Over 30 Thunderbirds, which they won 3 – 1. So, the pressure is on for the All Age competition team to keep up with their older sisters.
The Thunderbirds take on Moss Vale who won their previous encounter and will therefore believe they are a good chance to progress. With an opportunity to progress in the finals series possibly to the Grand Final, both teams will be trying their hardest for a win.

Women’s Over30s Division 1 Minor Semi-final
Thirroul Thunderbirds vs Albion Park White Eagles

With the regular season finished the competition for a spot in the Grand Final begins. In this game the third placed Thunderbirds takes on fourth placed White Eagles. The teams met only once during the season, with a 5 – 1 win to the Thunderbirds. However, with the possibility of getting to the Grand Final a tighter game can be expected.

Friday Night under the lights at Thomas Gibson Park. Major Semi Final 1 vs 2. An amazing game for the, some pearlers from Thirroul and Russell Vale.

A packed out Gibson Park bore witness to a great game of football tonight. Major Semi Final 1 vs 2 was always going to be a cracker of a game. AA4 took a two goal lead into half time, before Russell Vale roared back in the second half to pull it back to 2-2. AA4 steadied themselves and got two more goals, before a goal of the season contender from Costa finished off the game. A great game by both teams finished 5-2 to AA4.

AA4 on to the Grand Final.

A great way to celebrate is to come down to Thirroul for Old Boys Day and cheer on Thirroul Thunder FC at 11, 1 and 3. See Brad in the coaches box rather than firing in the goals for AA4.

Under 17 Boys Division 1 Major Semifinal
Thirroul Thunder vs Helensburgh Thistle
Gibson Park Thirroul 23rd June

Having finished top of the table League Champions Thirroul took on second placed Helensburgh. The teams finished the regular season only 2 points apart and this closeness was reflected in the game. The match was a tight, hard affair with neither dominating. At the end of regular time the score was 0 - 0 and the game went into extra time. The breakthrough came in the first half with Helensburgh scoring the only goal of the match.

Helensburgh go straight through to the Grand Final, while Thirroul will take on Woonona in the Preliminary Final next Sunday at Gibson Park, kick-off 10:30.

Women’s O30s – Thunderbirds vs Figtree

The regular season has finished and while they wait for the semi-finals the Thunderbirds organised a “friendly” match to make up for the fact that the two teams were unable to play each other during the season due to washed out games.

Special thanks goes to Figtree who finished their season two weeks ago but agreed to help out the Thunderbirds with a warmup game before the semi finals next weekend. The Women’s O30s will play Albion Park, kick-off 12:15, followed by the Women’s Division 1 team playing Moss Vale at 2:30 PM. Both games are at Gibson Park.
