A couple of days ago, Kofi jetted off to the USA to begin the next chapter of his basketball journey at Tiffin University.

I first met Kofi at the Basketball Victoria U12 Jamboree, and it’s been a privilege to watch his journey unfold ever since.

His path has never been the conventional one. From playing in 3’s teams, to making the courageous decision to spend a year as a development player with Westgate’s 16.1 boys despite having offers elsewhere, to becoming a bottom-age U18 VC Champion and earning opportunities in Youth League and NBL1 with Eltham.

His journey hasn’t been perfect, but that’s exactly what has shaped him into the athlete and role model he is today.

If you’re looking for a point guard who can control the pace of the game, knock down the three ball and create for others at an elite level, Jas is the player you want.

After missing out on Australian selection twice, Jas responded the best way possible… by embracing the feedback, putting in the work and continuing to improve. This year, that persistence paid off as she earned selection for the Australian U17 World Cup team.

She returns home with a bronze medal, and we’re confident this is only the beginning. We have no doubt you’ll be seeing plenty more of Jas in the green and gold!

I get this question every year, so I thought I’d get ahead of it.

I’d also add that, particularly at a young age, optimising every aspect of an athlete’s coaching environment matters far less than fostering a genuine love for the game. That love is what will carry them through the difficult periods.

If playing with their friends in a slightly less ideal development environment is what keeps them enjoying basketball, that’s the option I’d choose.

Congratulations to Harper Jozsa, Blaise Squires and Cleo D’Andrea for their selection to the SSV 12 and under girls state team.

We have a feeling this will just be one of the many things they get selected for in their basketball careers (we will also forget about Harpers footy selection because we want her to stay in basketball 😎)
