Royal Fremantle, established in 1905, is one of the few golf clubs that still occupies its original site. The course can be tamed on a still day, but when the prevailing sea breeze, colloquially called the "Fremantle Doctor" arrives, after midday, only the best swings survive.

Royal Fremantle Golf Club hosted the Royal Fremantle Senior Open on Monday, 14 September, welcoming 133 players from 33 metropolitan and regional clubs for the event's third consecutive year.

The continued growth of the tournament reflects the strong support for senior golf across Western Australia, with players enjoying a competitive day on the course and excellent club hospitality.

Royal Fremantle Dominates the Royal Challenge đź‘‘

Royal Fremantle has delivered an outstanding performance in this year’s Royal Challenge, defeating Royal Perth Golf Club with an impressive 17 match wins and two squared matches.

Established in 2007, the Royal Challenge celebrates the friendly rivalry between Royal Fremantle and Royal Perth, with the two Clubs alternating hosting duties each year.

The winning Club is crowned Royal Challenge champion, with its initials embroidered onto the event’s commemorative cushion.

Congratulations to all Royal Fremantle players on an incredible team achievement and a dominant result!

🏆 Sir Charles Gairdner Trophy | Royal Fremantle 20 – Royal Perth 5

A fantastic result for Royal Fremantle in this year’s Sir Charles Gairdner Trophy, claiming 20 matches to Royal Perth Golf Club’s 5.

First contested in 1959, the Sir Charles Gairdner Trophy continues the longstanding friendly rivalry between our two Royal Clubs – a relationship dating back to 1906. More than a competition, the day is an opportunity to keep a proud golfing tradition alive, renew friendships and celebrate the history shared between Royal Fremantle and Royal Perth.

A special congratulations to Chuck MacFarlane & Adam Scriven, who recorded the best score of the day with an outstanding 9 to win the Bob Davison/Bill Eddy Trophy. đź‘Ź

There were plenty of other strong performances for Royal Fremantle, with Marty Head & Earnie Ronalds scoring 8, and Steve Pickering & John McGarry and Alan Tija & Gary Hawker each recording 7.

Royal Perth also produced some great scores, led by Sharky & Domenic DiVirgillio with 8, followed by William Stephens & Craig Evans and Graeme Howie & Russell Telfer with 4 each.

Thank you to everyone from both Clubs who took part and contributed to another memorable chapter in this longstanding tradition. We look forward to continuing the friendly rivalry between the Royals for many years to come. 👑⛳

What a fantastic weekend of golf at Royal Fremantle as we welcomed an outstanding field of amateur golfers from across Australia and overseas to compete in the 2026 Royal Fremantle Amateur Open.

This year the event has been expanded 54 holes, and elevated to an Australian National Order of Merit event, as well as a World Amateur ranking event – Royal Fremantle is proud to host an event that allows local amateurs an opportunity to earn world ranking points without having to leave the State!

Congratulations to Jazy Roberts, who claimed the title with an impressive 5-under-par tournament total, showcasing exceptional consistency and composure throughout the championship.

A special mention must also go to Abel Eduard, whose outstanding play saw him equal the Royal Fremantle course record (63), producing one of the standout performances of the tournament.

Thank you to our volunteers, officials, staff, members and spectators whose support helped make the event such a success. Events of this calibre are only possible through the collective efforts of our Club community.

We also extend our sincere thanks to our sponsors, ADH Golf & Utility Vehicles and Stockland Nara for their valued partnership and contribution to this year's championship.

Royal Fremantle Amateur Open 🏌️‍♀️| Meet the male field

Abel Eduard 
2026 Australian Master of the Amateurs and winner of the South Australian Amateur Classic, Abel sits 3rd on the GA order of merit and is a Victorian state representative, having helped Victoria win the Australian Interstate Teams Matches.

Max Morning 
A Golf Australia High Performance Program member and Victorian state representative, Max won the 2025 Riversdale Cup, 2025 Portsea Open Amateur and the 2024 Dunes Medal.

Josiah Edwards 
A Golf Australia High Performance Program member. Josiah won the 2026 Riversdale Cup and 2025 Port Phillip Open Amateur. He’s also represented Western Australia at the Interstate Teams Matches.

Zach Capelli
2022 Club Champion, Zach won the 2025 Melville Glades Amateur Open and backed it up with a runner-up finish at the 2026 Pacific Harbour Amateur, plus a T15 at the 2026 Queensland Men’s Amateur Championship (Stroke Play).
