David and Liam are heading out to do some racing tomorrow afternoon with SouthCoastUnitedMountainbikers, so we will be closing up a little early. We will be back as usual on Monday from 9am 🙂‍↕️

🧡💜 SASSI 30 💜🧡

While we won’t be riding this time, we are excited to be participating in the SASSI 30 walk on the 8th of August, walking from Huskisson to Hyams beach. This event raises funds and awareness for women and their children in the Shoalhaven and Illawarra area who have been affected by domestic violence and homelessness. This is an incredibly important cause, and this event has had a powerful impact on the local community over the past 10 years.

All funds raised go directly to the Nowra Women’s Refuge and help to provide support for those in need. Coordination is key 💚🔑

On this week’s adventure agenda, we managed to find time to duck up to Sydney to check out what’s happening at Trek Bicycle Company. Lots of exciting things are in the pipeline, but it was just as exciting to see some of the sweet bikes they had in store at Trek on Clarence St. 🌃

Jill and David pulled off quite the coordinated green outfits for the occasion, which coincidently perfectly matched the Checkpoint + Jill is after. This proposal was met with a little scepticism from David, but he did take a knee, so maybe there is hope 🥰

If you would like to coordinate outfits with your next bike, make sure you come in and have chat with us, as we have lots of experience to share. We can also cover general bike inquiries (that don’t involve colour coordination) relatively well too 😎

How much sealant is too much? 🤔

We recently had a top up of our Peaty’s Australia holeshot sealant and it is quite hefty. As seen here, David immediately formed a bond with the large container, and it will be cherished in the shop.

At 25 litres, it should be just enough to seal up a set of 32” wheels (future proofing), and maybe even a couple of smaller variants as well 🙂‍↕️

Winter is a great time to do all the bike maintenance that you inevitably put off for the rest of the year, and there is nothing worse than a little hole and dry sealant ruining your ride. Come in and get a top up for your home workshop (unfortunately the 25L isn’t for sale, but we do have 500ml and 1L bottles available!), or bring in a wheel and let us get it sorted for you ✅

❄️🤩Keep riding in winter! 🤩❄️

The winter weather has set in this week, with cold temps and rain meaning riding outside is a little less appealing. Fortunately, there are options to keep you on your bike and your legs strong, such as an indoor trainer! 💪

As you can see here, David loves his Wahoo Kickr, and it allows him to keep consistency in his training even when the rain disrupts his riding plans (“there is absolutely nothing on the radar, ridiculous”) 🌧️

📅 Long weekend hours 📅

It’s another long weekend and with some good weather on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to get out on the bike!

We will be closed tomorrow (Saturday) the 25th, Sunday the 26th, and Monday the 27th, and back open as usual from Tuesday the 28th.

Does Jill need a new e-bike? 🤔

Jill has been enjoying her commute to work over the past few weeks, braving all weather conditions (fortunately the weather has been mostly nice), arriving (and departing) in style. It has come to her attention, however, that the tread on her coveted EXe is subject to some excess wear on the harshly surfaced roads of our little metropolis. The only reasonable solution to this, of course, is to purchase another e-bike purely for commuting.

While David isn’t on board just yet, he seems to be warming to the idea, and as Jill is the backbone of the Bike Shack and constantly provides joy to all in her vicinity, I think we could see her on some fresh wheels soon.

The long weekend is here, and we are taking sometime off to kick back and hit the trails! 🙂‍↕️

We will be closed the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th, and back to regular hours from the 7th! We hope you have a fantastic holiday and get some time in on your bikes!

🤩 More medals for the Bike Shack! 🤩

Some top quality racing went down on the weekend at Mt Stromlo as part of the National MTB XCO Series, and David was in thick of it. Racing both Saturday and Sunday, he came away with a bronze and silver up against some tough competition! 🙂‍↕️

Saturday was all about technical skill, with racers taking on the infamous cardiac climb and hammerhead descent combo, requiring both power and finesse. Fortunately, David has both of these traits in excess, allowing him to ride comfortably to a podium finish (he even crashed 3 times to make his rivals feel better - but “never lost his cool” - that’s real finesse 😎).

Sunday switched it up, with some long firetrail climbing and high speed flow rewarding those with a big engine (and a finally tuned carburetor ) and the ability to stay off the brakes through the corners. Backing up well, he kept the pace high, stayed upright, and took another step up the podium in to 2nd.

Another great weekend of racing, with plenty more to come this year! Make sure to drop by the shop to check out the fresh bling, and get the full race rundown - or even better, get your bike in for a service so you are ready to tear it up at your next race too!
