WORLD MASTERS ROWING REGATTA 2026
LAKE BLED, SLOVENIA! 🚣🇦🇺

The countdown is on! We’re wishing the very best of luck to our 11 Newcastle Rowing Club members heading to beautiful Lake Bled, Slovenia, to compete at the 2026 World Rowing Masters Regatta! 🌏💙❤️

Racing kicks off on Wednesday 9 September, with our NRC rowers lining up across a huge program of singles, doubles, quads, fours and eights throughout the week.

📅 The race schedule is attached, with races currently listed from Wednesday through Saturday.
🔥 Sunday 13 September is mixed racing day, with several more NRC races still to come, the final draw and race times will be released on Saturday night.

🚣‍♀️ Union of Oarswomen Training Day at Berry Park

A fantastic day of rowing, learning and plenty of fun at the Union of Oarswomen Training Day at Berry Park!

Newcastle Rowing Club was well represented, with five rowers and two assistant coaches joining in for the day.

The morning started under a blanket of chilly fog, but it wasn’t long before it lifted to reveal a beautiful day and some magical conditions out on the water. ☀️🚣‍♀️

A big thank you to Endeavour Rowing Club for hosting and helping make it such an enjoyable day. 💙

🚣‍♀️ Four Bridges Mini Marathon 🚣‍♂️

A small but mighty contingent of 12 rowers flew the flag for Newcastle Rowing Club at the Four Bridges Mini Marathon in Port Macquarie.

Racing 20km from Wauchope to Port Macquarie, our two quads and two double sculls enjoyed a beautiful bluebird day and almost perfect conditions on the pristine Hastings River. ☀️💙

A big thank you to our support crew, Suzie Brown and Paul, and to Lake Macquarie Rowing Club for towing our boats. 🙌

And congratulations to
Heidi Pullen , who topped off a great day by winning the raffle! 🎉🎟️

Thanks to Port Macquarie Rowing Club for a brilliantly organised event and a fantastic day out on the water.

Thank you, Matt! 🚣‍♂️

After many years as part of the Newcastle Rowing Club community, Matthew Smith is moving on from rowing.

Matt first joined NRC as a rookie in the late ’90s and has been a familiar face at the club ever since. Over the years, he’s been a long-serving committee member, an enthusiastic competitor and an active member of our club community.

In more recent years, Matt could often be found among the first out on the water, enjoying an early row in his single scull, Emily Snook.

As he moves on from rowing, Matt has very generously donated Emily Snook to the club, where she’ll continue to be enjoyed by NRC members for years to come.

Thank you, Matt, for your many years of involvement, contribution and support of Newcastle Rowing Club. We wish you all the very best for whatever comes next! 💙

✨ A big thank you to our cleaning fairies! ✨

Our shed has had a serious sparkle-up, and it looks absolutely fantastic. A huge thank you to the wonderful people who saw what needed doing and simply got in and did it. 🧚‍♀️🧹✨

We’re incredibly lucky to have a club community where so many people quietly pitch in. It might be maintaining equipment, mowing the lawns, picking up rubbish, cleaning bathrooms, charging stroke coaches and lights, painting, fixing things, or one of the countless other jobs that keep our club running.

And that’s a good reminder for all of us! This is our shed, and looking after it is everyone’s job. ❤️💙

It can be as simple as getting the buckets and oar racks ready in the morning, helping put everything away properly at the end of a row, picking something up when you walk past it, or grabbing a broom when the floor needs a sweep.

Lots of little contributions make a very big difference.

🎉 What a fantastic Trivia Night! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a fun, laughter-filled evening. It was wonderful to see so many members, family and friends enjoying themselves while supporting Newcastle Rowing Club.

A special thank you to our incredible volunteers and committee who worked behind the scenes to make the night happen. From planning and organising, to hosting, scoring and keeping everything running so smoothly. We couldn’t do it without you.

A big thank you also to Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club and their wonderful staff for being such welcoming hosts and helping make the evening such a success.

💙 Thank You, Di! 💙

For the past two years, Di has been the driving force behind Newcastle Rowing Club’s Learn to Row program.

From coordinating our amazing volunteer members to helping almost 60 people become rowers, Di has dedicated countless hours to making every participant feel supported from day one.

Thank you, Di, for your organisation, generosity and unwavering commitment. Your contribution has helped grow our club and strengthen our community, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you’ve done 💙🚣

A huge congratulations to NRC members John McLeod and Margi Vercoe, who travelled to Rhodes Parkrun last weekend for its special Octogenarian Celebration, recognising Parkrunners aged 80 and over. 👏

John has now completed more than 400 Parkruns, while Margi is closing in on an incredible 300.

Their achievements extend well beyond Parkrun. The pair have been rowing together at Newcastle Rowing Club for almost 30 years and famously completed the Carrington to Berry Park Marathon in 2003 in a mixed double. Battling gale force winds, rough water and a punishing final stretch into Berry Park, they showed the same determination that still sees them active today.

The timing is especially fitting, with Newy parkrun celebrating its 14th anniversary this Saturday. John was there for the very first Newcastle Parkrunand is still taking part today.

We are incredibly proud to have John and Margi as members of Newcastle Rowing Club. Their commitment to fitness, friendship and community continues to inspire us all.
