You don’t have to do half the things draining you yet you choose to.

Most of the time, “I have to” is just code for:

- I don’t want the cost of saying no
- I want to keep the peace
- I’m protecting an identity that’s exhausted me
- That one word can hide the real issue.

And once you name the choice, you get your power back.
Not everything is optional, grief, bills, diagnosis, real life.

But a lot of what feels heavy? There’s usually one door you haven’t checked yet.

What’s one “I have to” in your life right now?

You don’t need to do everything.
This is often a phrase we use - not one that we consciously lean in and choose differently.

Try this instead:
“I’m choosing to say yes.”
“I’m choosing to carry this.”
“I’m choosing to change it.”

Because ownership isn’t blame - it’s power.

And once you see a choice clearly, you can change it.

There is a sentence people do not enjoy hearing from me.

You always have a choice.

It sounds like a slogan until you sit with it. Then it stops being comforting very quickly. Because if there is always a choice, the situation you have been describing as impossible is one you have been choosing.

Not the circumstances. Nobody chooses those.

The response. The staying. The not saying it.

Ep 106 is out now. It is the least soothing episode I have recorded and I think it may be the most useful.

Most people think a pause is a big dramatic reset.
It’s not.

A pause is just the tiny gap between what happens and what you do next.
It's not a holiday that you need to plan to avoid burnout.

It's not stepping away from your life.
It's not waiting until you have “more time.”

Just enough space to stop the automatic reply, the rushed decision, the spiral.
And honestly, that space can change everything.
If you’ve been treating pause like a luxury, this is your sign to treat it like a skill.

What would change if you used that gap more often?

Shot from the bottom of the stairs, looking up.

Which is roughly how most of us watch other people's lives. From a distance, at an angle, with none of the detail.

From down there it all looks sorted. Up close there is a family who very nearly did not get out the door.

You are comparing your inside to somebody else's outside. It was never a fair fight. 🌶️

Most people don’t lose momentum because they pause.
They lose momentum because they never reset.

A good tennis player doesn’t sprint from point to point.
They turn away.
They walk back.

They do the same small routine.
That pause isn’t a break in performance - it is the performance.

And that’s the part we forget in everyday life.
We keep dragging the last point into the next one.

Then we wonder why we feel off, tired and weirdly heavy by the end of the day.
The reset is not a luxury.
The reset is the skill most of us rush through.

You don’t have time to pause?

Maybe you just don’t want what the pause reveals.
Save this and try it once today - one breath before the moment you usually rush through.

Pick one spot in your day where things always go sideways:
before work
before dinner
before you answer that text
Don’t try to fix your life in that breath.

Just notice what shows up when you stop arriving at decisions on autopilot.

The pause isn’t a finish line.
It’s a return.
And if you forget, just reset - never miss twice.

What’s your “go sideways” moment?
