Decorative Marbling
Ive been seeing some amazing marbling work coming out of the states over the past 12 months and have been trying to work out how they do it. I finally managed to jump on a blog and got chatting with a few of the serious players and managed to work it out.

These are my first attempts using what ive learnt and im stoked. Im looking forwards to pushing these new techniques and lifting my marbling skills.

This first rod is Cooper’s new 2kg and ive used a gunmetal base and then marbled with a silver, black and a gunmetal grey.

The colour separation was the hardest problem to solve and the most important as before the colours would meld into each other and although they looked cool it was always a very predictably wishy washy soupy type of look. Not anymore

Doug and Corine's Estuary Rods.

Every now and then you get to meet people that are on the same wave length and you instantly connect with. Dougie is one such dude. It is such a buzz to be able to help him out and build a couple of rods that are meaningful to himself and his wife.

Doug and Corine love fishing in the lower Southern and target estuary species of the river banks. Ive used a set of Samuari Premium blanks, custom cork/ resin impregnated with the good bits is the story of these 3 builds. Fazlite guide trains, Tiger wraps and of course homeage paid to the regiment in which served is a strong component to these builds. Split rear grips and two piece blanks that will fit anywhere and still fish super crisp.

Thank you for your service mate.

And I look forwards to smashing some big whitting with you guys sooner than later.

Snowys 1KG Line Class rod.

KBGFC 2026 Dampier Classic Rods

I got asked to help the KBGFC with their annual Dampier Classic comp and build a series of lineclass rods as prizes. Its been a long time between drinks as the last time I helped the club was back in 2016 and I remember building a whole quiver of rods covering all of the line classes fished. This year I was a bit time poor but agreed to build what I class as the real serious Line Class rods > 1, 2 and 3KG.

I had a few United Composite blanks in my workshop that ive been saving for a rainy day and were perfect for these builds. All rods are 6'6" in length, have custom EVA grips with inlays that match the rods design colour schemes, feature Fuji componentry and guide trains. The guides are all Sic rings to match their use and be almost friction free with matching tips and feature some real nice marbling decorative butt designs. Design wise I have used the competition colours and have built the 3 rods with differing blue themes.

These rods are super light, look beyond nice, and fish like demons in the right hands. Whoever is lucky enough to win one will have a rod they will treasure for a long time.

Willys Weapon is the latest 15kg Switcher I’ve built for the Dampier Billfishery. Another Samurai blank that I’ve built up using the latest and greatest bling components. Full Fuji K series guide train featuring Sic rings and in the new shiny grey finish. Custom Eva grips, ALPS reel seat and gimbal, and a crazy Sawblades wrap that takes a lot of work but looks so fly when you get them right. They look very trick with this build.
