🔥 KARRATHA PRIDE - SHANE ON THE WORLD STAGE 🔥

As the ANABA team heads home from the IBA Men’s World Boxing Championship in Dubai, we want to take a moment to shine the light on our own.

Coach Shane McDonald stepped onto the biggest stage in amateur boxing — not just as a coach, but as a leader, mentor and proud representative of City of Karratha and Western Australia.

He showed up for every fight.
He poured belief into every boxer.
He stood in the corner with passion, purpose and an unwavering commitment to the team.

This wasn’t just another tournament — this was the result of years of work, sacrifice and showing up when it matters most. Watching Shane corner athletes on the world stage was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when preparation meets opportunity.

This experience has only fuelled the fire.
Shane is already looking ahead, driven to put WA on the map in 2026 and beyond, and to bring everything he’s learned back home.

We couldn’t be prouder to have him representing our gym, our state and our values at world level.

This campaign comes off the back of 11 international events, including Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Serbia, Tahiti, and England - experiences that continue to shape and strengthen Australian boxing.
And with that foundation laid, 2026 is set to be even bigger.

To our boxers and extended team - you are surrounded by leaders who care deeply, demand excellence, and believe in what’s possible.

🇦🇺 AUSTRALIA - THAT’S A WRAP 🥊🌍
IBA MEN’S WORLD BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP - DUBAI 2025

And just like that… it’s over for Coach Shane Mcdonald and the Australian team at this year’s World Championships.

What an incredible journey it has been.

Australia entered this tournament with some of the least experienced fighters in the competition - yet every single one of them proved they absolutely belong on the world stage.

🔥 They fought with heart.
🔥 They fought with courage.
🔥 They fought with true Aussie spirit.

We may not be moving into the semi finals, but we walk away with something just as powerful:

✨ Experience. Growth. And a clear vision of where we need to be.
This trip wasn’t just about results - it was about development, unity and lifting Australian boxing to new heights.

🔥 FIGHT RECAP — KOBE HUNT 🇦🇺🥊
QUARTER FINALS OF THE WORLD TITLES — WHAT A MOMENT

Kobe Hunt stepped onto the world stage tonight in the quarter finals of the World Titles — an achievement in itself that most fighters can only dream of.

Facing a highly skilled opponent from Russia, Kobe started strong in Round 1.
He was sharp, disciplined, countering beautifully and showing exactly why he earned his place in the top eight.

Round 2 opened well too, but the Russian fighter found his rhythm and landed a few clean shots that resulted in 8-counts.
Three counts in the same round forced the referee to stop the contest.

But let’s be clear:

💥 Kobe is only 21 years old.
💥 He stepped into a world-level quarter final.
💥 He fought with courage, skill and composure beyond his years.

Tonight wasn’t the ending we hoped for — but it was a glimpse of a HUGE future.

Kobe, you did Australia proud, mate.

🥊 FIGHT RECAP — JAWAAD SHAMSHIR 🇦🇺🔥

Jawaad Shamshir opened the night for Australia, stepping into the ring with focus, composure and the confidence of a man who came to make a statement.

The first round was all about feel — reading his opponent, finding rhythm, and finishing the round strong.
Despite a solid finish, the call didn’t go his way.

Round 2 was razor-close, with Jawaad starting to dial in his distance, timing and pressure.
Both boys had their moments — a real tactical battle.

And then came Round 3…
🔥 A WAR.
Jawaad refused to leave anything to the judges.
He bit down, lifted the tempo, and went toe-to-toe in an absolute battle where both fighters emptied the tank.

When the final bell rang, the crowd felt how close it was.
Jawaad lost on a split decision — one of those fights that could have swung either way.

Not the result we hoped for tonight, but what a performance from Leo against an opponent who looks like he could go all the way in this competition.

The stoppage was disappointing — no denying that — but hey… that’s boxing.
High stakes, big moments, and sometimes decisions don’t fall your way.
What matters most is the heart, the skill and the courage Leo showed under pressure on the world stage.

We are incredibly proud of him.
He represented himself, his team and his country with class and determination.

🥊 FIGHT RECAP - ALEX SCANTZOS 🇦🇺🔥
Heart. Courage. And world-stage experience money can’t buy.

Alex Scantzos stepped into the ring tonight against one of the tournament favourites from Kazakhstan - a nation known for producing some of the most seasoned and technically elite fighters on the planet.

Alex didn’t shy away for a second.
He went straight in, took the centre, and traded confidently in the opening exchanges.

Midway through the round, the Kazakh opponent found his rhythm and put together a sharp, clinical combination - finishing with a right–left hook that scored a knockdown.
Alex jumped straight back to his feet, showing massive heart, but the referee made the call to stop the bout.

Standing proudly in his corner was Coach Shane, backing him every second and offering world-class guidance.
Shane has been pouring his passion and voice (literally!) into this Australian team, and opportunities like this - guiding young talent on the world stage - mean everything to him.

This was a huge challenge against a highly experienced international fighter, and Alex faced it with courage, commitment and the Aussie spirit we love. 🇦🇺🔥

🥊 FIGHT RECAP — SERAT JAMAL 🇦🇺

Serat Jamal put on an incredible performance tonight, going up against a tough and talented opponent from Mozambique 🇲🇿.

Serat came out sharp and took Round 1, showing skill, confidence and clean boxing.

In Round 2, his opponent came back hard and just managed to edge the round — setting the stage for an all-out war in the third.

Round 3 was everything you want to see in world-level boxing.
Both boys went toe-to-toe, neither taking a backward step, trading shots and digging deep right to the final bell.

The fight was so close it went to a Bout Review — meaning the judges had to reassess and select a winner because the scores were effectively even.

In the end, the decision went to Mozambique by a very tight split decision.

But make no mistake — Serat showed heart, skill and world-class composure.
A performance to be proud of and a fighter with a big future ahead. 🇦🇺🔥

Malakai Katene 🇦🇺💥

🔥 FIGHT RECAP — MALAKAI KATENE

Closing out the night, Malakai faced one of the most feared boys in the competition — an opponent from Mali known as “Little Mike Tyson” for his relentless pressure and explosive, close-range power.

From the first punch, Malakai had a war on his hands. The Mali fighter stuck to him like glue, forcing an intense inside battle every second of the bout.

But Malakai rose to the challenge.
He used his angles, created space in tight pockets, and fired back with beautiful technical shots. It was a high-level, gritty, tactical fight, the kind that tests skill, heart and composure.

In the end, Mali took the decision, but Malakai showed incredible resilience and talent — proving he absolutely belongs on this international stage. 🇦🇺

And with Coach Shane in his corner, pushing, guiding and supporting him every step of the way, it was a fight full of pride. Shane is loving every moment of this experience — being part of the Australian coaching team, cornering future legends, and witnessing firsthand the rise of these young warriors.

Luke Cassar 🇦🇺🥊

🔥 FIGHT RECAP — LUKE CASSAR

Luke opened the night for Australia, stepping into his first international bout with courage, hunger and absolute determination. Taking on a strong, technical opponent from Latvia, Luke didn’t back down for a moment.

He came out aggressive and confident, but the Latvian’s movement made it tough to close the distance early. Still, Luke kept pressing forward, problem-solving under pressure and looking for openings.

In Round 2, he lifted again — pushed the pace, adjusted his angles and landed some clean, crisp shots. He was starting to turn the momentum his way. But while stepping in to close the gap, he absorbed a heavy body shot that shifted the round.

Even then, Luke refused to fold. He stayed composed, stayed on his feet, and fought with heart right until the final bell.

💛 A massive learning experience and a performance he should be proud of.

And a huge shout-out to Coach Shane, who’s absolutely loving this opportunity — cornering Australia’s next generation of champions and supporting young legends in the making. Nights like this remind him exactly why he coaches. 🇦🇺🥊

The final fight of the night for Australia belonged to Zac Brown — and he didn’t just win…
He SMASHED it.
A world-class performance from the opening bell to the final second.

Zac came out lightning sharp, using his distance, timing and discipline to take Round 1 with a dominant 4–1 score.
His Indian opponent adjusted in Round 2, closed the gap and levelled the fight with his own 4–1 round.

Then came the moment.
Everything on the line.
Crowd roaring.
World stage pressure at its peak.

And Zac stepped up like a future superstar —
showing icy composure, lifting his pace and dominating Round 3 with a PERFECT 5–0 sweep to seal the victory.
