Melbourne Rope Quoits Association MRQA Inc. brings people together through the traditional sport of Rope Quoits. Welcome

M.R.Q.A. invites you to start playing quoits.

With six clubs across Melbourne in 2026, we welcome new players of any age or experience level. Rope Quoits is a low cost social and competitive game for the whole family, so why not give rope quoits a go - family fun and competition

Did you know? Records tell us that Rope Quoits was played extensively throughout Britain as early as the 15th century and was introduced by early settlers to Australia at many mining centres. The Australian Rope Quoits Council was formed in 1947 as the controlling body and to standardize equipment. There are Rope Quoits Associatons throughout Victoria competing in the Singles and Teams Championships. The oldest registered player and still playing is 86 and the youngest is only 6. World Record: A throw of 4002 unfinished by Bill Irby of Melbourne in 1967. Bill Irby passed away January 1983 and won the Australian Open Singles Championships 6 times from 1967 to 1982. I’d like to say a big thanks to everyone who spread the news and came along to the first of many open days. I speak on everyone’s behalf when i say it was an enjoyable experience alongside amazing people and a super fun game of girls Vs boys quoits (boys won!!!) We had a lovely spread of food and tables filled with great history of this beautiful sport! We didn’t get us many new comers as expected but next time is ensured to be bigger and better! We can’t wait to see you there!

The MRQA community is saddened to hear of the passing of Peter Schiemann, husband of Linda Schiemann.

Linda was a long-time rope quoits player and former Captain of the Brunswick Rope Quoits Club. Linda is also the sister of Barry Watson.

Our thoughts are with Linda and her family at this difficult time.
