Victorian Roller Derby League We skate on the unceded lands of the Kulin nation. Within a few years VRDL has made their way to the top teams in the WFTDA.

Victorian Roller Derby League is a member owned and operated non-for-profit association committed to encouraging, promoting and advancing the sport of flat track roller derby. The Victorian Roller Derby League (VRDL) is a non-profit Roller Derby League founded in Melbourne at the start of 2007. Victoria had three undefeated years attending at the Big O tournament in Eugene, Oregon and in 2015 they

were the first non-US team with the medal placing (bronze) in the prestigious WFTDA Championships. In 2017 they became the first non-US team to win the first price in the WFTDA Championships, The Hydra. Currently ranked #2 in the world, Victoria have made multiple self-funded trips to America to maintain their Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) ranking. VRDL has three teams: International, National and State. As well as juniors and organises Learn To Skate and Learn To Derby courses for beginner and intermediate levels. Not everyone at Regionals is wearing a team jersey! 👏

We're excited to see some of our members officiating this weekend at the 2026 WFTDA Regional Championships - Oceania, including:
🔹 Bruisenikov – Games Tournament Oversight
🔹 Denominator – Skating Official

There are also a number of VRDL alumni (former members) officiating throughout the tournament, so keep an eye out for some familiar faces around the track!

A huge thank you to all the officials, volunteers, and organisers who have worked tirelessly to make this event happen here in Victoria. Thank you to South Sea Roller Derby for hosting! We can't quite believe we're getting to play WFTDA playoffs in Victoria!!!

Concussion Education at VRDL 🧠🛼

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting Vicki and Katie from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, creators of the HeadCheck app, for an interactive presentation on concussion awareness and management.

HeadCheck is a free, evidence-based tool designed to help parents, coaches, and first-aiders recognise the signs of concussion, track symptoms, and support a safe return to school and sport.

As a sport, we’re mindful that concussions can sometimes be an overlooked area, and we’re committed to improving our understanding, education, and processes. The discussion focused on topics including initial assessment, return-to-play protocols, neurodiversity, and the fact that individuals can have very different concussion experiences and recovery journeys.

We’re excited about the opportunity to collaborate with Vicki and Katie on resources, research, and insights that will help strengthen how roller derby approaches concussion management.

A huge thank you to Vicki and Katie for taking time out of their Saturday to watch our Thunder and Comets scrimmage and share their knowledge with our club. We greatly appreciate your expertise and generosity. 💙🧠🛼
