* It supports multiple teams in the Australian Football League, A-League Men, and other national competitions.
* One NRL club is arguably under-representation for a city of more than five million people.

2. The Storm have already built the fan base

* Melbourne Storm have spent decades developing rugby league in Victoria.
* Junior participation, school programs, and grassroots clubs have grown significantly since the Storm entered the competition in 1998.
* A second club could benefit from the pathway and awareness the Storm have already created.

3. More Victorian pathways for players

* A second team would create more opportunities for Victorian juniors to stay in Victoria rather than move interstate.
* More NRL contracts, academy positions, and development programs would strengthen the local rugby league ecosystem.

4. A genuine Melbourne derby

* Rivalries drive attendance, television ratings, and media attention.
* A Melbourne derby could become one of the biggest events on the NRL calendar, similar to local derbies in other sports.
* Storm vs Melbourne’s second team would create instant interest and attract casual sports fans.

5. Expansion beyond traditional markets

* The NRL’s long-term growth depends on increasing its footprint outside New South Wales and Queensland.
* A second Melbourne team would further establish rugby league as a truly national competition rather than concentrating expansion only in existing heartlands.

6. Corporate and sponsorship opportunities

* Melbourne is Australia’s corporate capital with many major company headquarters.
* A new club could attract sponsors that may not currently be involved with rugby league.
* More Victorian corporate support means more revenue for the game overall.

Potential Challenges

* Competing with AFL for media attention and fans.
* Avoiding damage to Storm membership and sponsorship.
* Ensuring the new club has sufficient financial backing and a clear identity.

What could the team be?

Possible identities include:

* South Melbourne Jets (partnership with the historic Newtown jets brand)
* Western Melbourne Wolves
* Melbourne Falcons
* Victoria Titans ( move the Titans
* Melbourne Giants

The strongest argument is simple: Melbourne is now large enough, wealthy enough, and sports-mad enough to support a second NRL club, especially if it is based in a different part of the city and develops its own distinct identity rather than trying to compete directly with the Storm.

To help us understand the viability and interest in pursuing a Rugby League Team in Adelaide, we ask that you spend 5-10 mins filling out the survey.

All the results will be collated and added to a business case to be sent to the Minister for Sports in the South Australian State Government and Stakeholders.

I am the acting chair for the Return of a Rugby League Team to Adelaide Steering Committee.

I am looking for interested people from Adelaide who have an interest and passion for rugby league, and want to see the return of a team in Adelaide

Looking for people who have experience in various areas -
1. Primary Purpose
To provide strategic leadership, business expertise, and governance to establish a sustainable Rugby League franchise. The committee ensures the club meets all regulatory requirements (e.g., QRL/NSWRL/NRL requirements) while securing the financial and operational foundations for long-term on-field and off-field success.

With the South Australian State Election due in March 2026.
This gives us South Australian Rugby League Fans an opportunity to lobby both sides of the House, the independents, and minority candidates and parties that South Australia deserves a team in the National Rugby League.

I am currently putting together a list of both Labor and Liberal candidates and their email addresses and other helpful resources, so you can contact your local member and other candidates to lobby them to push for an NRL team in Adelaide.

A 2nd team in NZ, then Adelaide.

Should the NRL finally bring a second NZ team to the South Island? 🇳🇿

🏉 A brand new, 30,000 seat covered stadium
🏉 A new rivalry for the NRL - Warriors vs South Island team, could be on the same level as Rabbitohs vs Roosters in terms of a derby
🏉 Rugby League is on the up in New Zealand
🏉 Have an “Island of Origin” concept played alongside Origin weeks
🏉 Already some strong bids coming out of the South Island

With the game growing, the fans hungry for more and the NRL considering a move to 20 teams, is the South Island the next in line to get the nod?
