KOBTOBER TACKLE CHECK

When targeting Dusky Kob, having confidence in your mainline is just as important as choosing the right lure and retrieve.

For this Kobtober session, Boss Slick Perma Braid was the perfect choice to spool onto my Okuma Salina 5000.

The silky-smooth profile of the braid delivers excellent casting distance, helping get the paddle tail into the strike zone while maintaining great sensitivity throughout the retrieve.

The 30lb breaking strain gives me the confidence to put pressure on a good Kob when the bite comes, while still offering the casting performance needed for working paddle tails from the beach.

BOSS BRAID LEADER PUT TO THE TEST!
Tough conditions, dirty water, a headwind and seals lurking nearby. The odds weren't exactly in our favour, but we knew the Smoothhounds were around!
A fresh octopus leg went out, and just 15 minutes later, the rod was pulled flat. The fish made a run for the bricks, with a seal hot on its tail. There was no time to play around — it was time to put the tackle to the test and bully that fish out!
After the release, the rig inspection told the story. The mono hook snood and short mono leader were shredded, but the Boss Braid Leader remained intact, showing only two minor chafe marks.

The Boss Forge uses a 12X PE fibre construction with an additional monofilament polymer core, designed to improve durability, casting performance and overall handling while keeping the braid supple.

Steve's take:

Excellent casting potential
The smooth, supple construction helps reduce friction, making it well suited to long surf rods where casting distance matters.

Excellent strength-to-diameter ratio
