When gamefish are smashing bait balls, the key is to stand out — not blend in 🎣

Cast the Flutter Minnow past or alongside the feeding action and let it sink on a slack line. As it drops, the lure produces a natural fluttering fall, perfectly imitating a wounded baitfish that has fallen out of the school. Predators instinctively target this easy meal.

Once it reaches depth, work it back with short lifts of the rod tip, allowing the lure to flutter down between lifts. Most strikes come on the drop, so stay alert.

DURBAN SHAD — ABSOLUTE SLAB ON LURE

A late afternoon mission turned into one to remember for Kirath, landing this proper Durban shad on artificials along the local beachfront.

The fish absolutely smashed the lure and wasted no time showing its power, making blistering runs and throwing in a few wild jumps along the way. On lighter tackle, every second of the fight was pure adrenaline.

The Okuma ITX 3000 paired with the Epixor 7ft handled the pressure beautifully, while the 10lb Boss Perma braid allowed for long casts and solid control throughout the fight. The Blu Estuary Master lure once again proving deadly when the shad are feeding aggressively.

With winter conditions settling in, these bigger class shad are starting to show more regularly, especially during late afternoon and evening sessions along the Durban coastline.
