When I’m working with someone, I’m not trying to be clever.

I’m trying to be a mirror.

If they place the problem “over here,” I’ll reference it “over here.”
If they move it, I move with it.
Not because I’m copying them… but because I’m reflecting their structure back accurately.

And when you mirror a client’s inner map cleanly, something happens:
they stop arguing, stop performing, stop explaining.

They just recognize.

That’s spatial calibration.

Most practitioners think calibration is “listening better.”

And yes… that’s Level 1.

But the real upgrades happen when you realize calibration has layers:

Language calibration
ILPs. Exact words. The structure hiding in their sentences.

Physical calibration
Breath drops. Micro-pauses. Energy shifts. The body telling the truth.

Spatial calibration
Where they place the problem in space. How they gesture the future. What feels close, far, heavy, looming.

Most people never get past language.
But the goldmine is in the space around your client.

I’m unpacking this in the Enter the Loop book.

Did you notice how the problem started to morph and shift when she started to unpack what I was asking? 👇

Safety isn’t a protocol. It’s a presence.

A lot of practitioners try to “create safety” by doing the right steps:
say the right thing, ask the right question, use the right technique.

But your client’s nervous system isn’t tracking your checklist.
It’s tracking you.

Your pace.
Your breath.
Your eyes.
Whether you’re trying to fix them… or actually with them.

Because when you’re grounded, they can be grounded too. 🌀

And sometimes the most therapeutic thing you can do is simple:
slow down, soften your body, and let your attention say, “You’re not alone in this.”

Alright, quick honesty check.

There are a handful of moments that can make even the most skilled practitioner suddenly feel like they’re winging it. Not because you’re not good. Because your nervous system is doing that thing where it wants certainty right now.

So I’m curious…

Which imposter trigger hits you hardest
the quiet stretch where you feel pressure to “do something,” the comparison spiral, the complex client curveball… or the option we all want to select: “yes.” 🙃🌀

Calibration, to me, is the art of not forcing it.

Most of us were trained to “make something happen” in session.
Ask the right question. Run the right technique. Push for the breakthrough.

But calibration is the opposite.

It’s when you slow your own system down enough to notice what’s already there.
The breath that changes.
The shoulders that soften.
The pause that means “something just opened.”

And then you let that be your guide.

Not what you manufacture.
What you witness.

Because the gold is almost always present.
It’s just quiet. 😅✨

If you want to train that kind of attention and timing in real sessions, come check out Enter the Loop:

Mike Mandel says it best: when your eyes are off the client, you miss so much. 👀

The unconscious is always transmitting. Are you receiving? 👀

Because while your client is talking, their system is running a second conversation in parallel.

Breath shifts.
Shoulders tighten, then drop.
Eyes change focus.
A voice suddenly sounds younger, quieter, more honest.

I had a client talking about his career for ten minutes. It was coherent, logical, very “adult.”
Then his breathing deepened, his shoulders released, and in a completely different voice he said:

“What if I’m just afraid of becoming my father?”

That wasn’t a random thought.
That was the loop surfacing.

And the truth is, his body had been hinting that something deeper was trying to emerge for minutes. I almost missed it because it’s so easy to follow the content instead of the signal.

Why most practitioners miss unconscious signals (and don’t even realize it):

They’re buried in note-taking.
Writing down what the client said three sentences ago… while the breakthrough is happening right now.

They’re planning their next move.
So they stop listening and start performing.

They rush to fill silence.
Which is basically interrupting the client’s internal processing mid-download.

They’re hunting for what’s broken.
Filtering everything through “what’s wrong here?” and accidentally missing what’s already working, already shifting, already trying to emerge.

And look, I’m not saying notes are bad.
I’m saying timing matters.

Your notes can wait.
Presence can’t. 👇
