When most people think of Rio de Janeiro, theyā€™ve already got the picture dialed ā€” beaches, mountains, chaos, beauty. But just offshoreā€¦ itā€™s a different world.

Louro Nabuko and his buddy found it the way a lot of good stories start ā€” a random floating tree trunk, drifting in the blue. No reason for it to be thereā€¦ but every reason to stop. Underneath it, two absolute beasts ā€” mahi just ghosting in the shade, cruising like they owned it. They did it right first. Worked the log. Cast lures. Tried to trigger a reaction. Nothing. Plan B ā€¦ forget the bait metal shafts for bait. ā€” quiet, direct ā€” šŸ’Æ predator mode.

The best way to safely and confidently get into freediving.

Our next freediving course is May 8ā€“9, followed by an open water session at Anacapa Island on May 17. Space is limited to just 9 divers, so early sign-up is key.

This program provides the training and knowledge needed to safely freedive to depths of 60 feet or more, depending on your experience, with a strong emphasis on safety, comfort, and proper technique.

Youā€™ll learn:
ā€¢ Essential safety procedures for breath-holding
ā€¢ Equalization techniques for depth diving
ā€¢ Freediving and snorkeling equipment
ā€¢ The physics and physiology of diving ā€” what happens to your body at depth
ā€¢ Safety and problem management
ā€¢ Freediving technique development
ā€¢ Breathing and breath-hold training

Our instructor, Seamus Callham, is a professional freediver who spends multiple days each week in the water ā€” teaching, diving, and spearfishing at a high level.

Makoaā€™s been on an absolute tear lately. This is just one exampleā€”an absolute fish of a lifetimeā€¦ and heā€™s got more where that came from.

The wild part? Caught from shore, right here in Santa Barbara County.

Huge congratulations againā€”youā€™re setting the bar high and showing whatā€™s possible. Age isnā€™t a factor.

Takeaway: youā€™re definitely not catching this sitting on the couch. Get out thereā€”theyā€™re out there.

Blood lust runs deep in the familyā€¦cousins Jeremy Frazier- killer extraordinaire putting the hurt on the tuna with the essential gear. Nice work buddy!!

Normally heā€™s crawling around the bush dressed in camo sweating, flies in his ears, fight off mountain lions and bagging trophy deer(šŸ¦Œ) or more recently a buffalo!
