Free Fishing- Spearfishing Day is tomorrow, Sept. 5!

If you’re new to fishing or spearfishing, or just curious to try it, this is your shot. California’s second Free Fishing Day of 2026 is Saturday, Sept. 5, no sport fishing license required.

Bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours, and stream closures still apply, so know the rules before you head out.

Grab a friend, grab your gear (or come see us if you need any), and get out on the water. Let’s go fishing. Let’s go spearfishing. 🌊

Huge congrats to vitlap1 on his first-ever White Seabass. He’d been diving another suit for the longest time, picked up our new wetsuit about a month ago, and called it “the game changer” he needed.

Built for spearos by spearos…from the ground up:
🔪 Double knife pockets
🦈 Leg stripes designed to help ward off sharks
👁️ Orca-eye patches on the back — because what’s behind you matters
📏 Extra-high waist for a locked-in fit
…and a handful of other dive-forward details we packed in.

Pretty nice be able to roll out of your house jump in the water and shoot one of these. Santa Barbara …. hard to beat!!! congrats Tim…that’s a lovely fish.

Not your average catch and cook. Mike Robinson harvested a bat ray in Santa Barbara waters, a species that almost nobody on the Central Coast thinks to eat. Most anglers throw them back without a second thought. But cross the Atlantic and it’s a different story: ray wing (often sold as “skate”) shows up on menus across France, Spain, and Italy, pan seared in brown butter and capers, or braised in a rich stock.

Mike broke this one down and cooked it showing that “trash fish” is often just a fish nobody’s tried yet. Sustainable, underutilized, and honestly delicious once you know how to clean it.
